Let me start by saying, I’ve never had a bad experience at this location with saltwater fish… Until yesterday.
On 01/20/25, my wife and I came in to purchase three Clownfish, and an Emerald Crab. My wife found a female employee to help us. This older woman would not stop complaining about her carpal tunnel, and how much she hates saltwater fish. Continually complaining about doing her job throughout this interaction. We told her what fish we wanted to buy, and she began grabbing rocks out of the tank and literally throwing them into the tank next to it. She catches the fish, and proceeds to keep them out of the water for upwards of ten seconds while she is putting them into the smallest bag she possibly could have found… It gets worse.
We then tell her we are interested in an Emerald Crab. These particular crabs are young, about 3/4”, timid, and are quite fragile. They typically hang out underneath rock work. Keep that in mind.
This woman begins grabbing rocks inside of the tank, and dropping them inside of the water. She begins telling us how she has ripped their shells off previously while removing them. She brings the rock out of the water and begins poking one of the crabs, it releases from the rock and into her hand. She then DROPS the crab from a height of about 3-4 feet, picks it up and attempts to put it into the (small) bag that already contains three other fish.
I tell her that I do not want to purchase the crab she has just dropped onto the floor, and she attempts to convince me that “it will be fine. They like to play possum.” I tell her, I’m not going to buy the crab. HERE IS WHERE IT GETS AWFUL..
This woman removes the crab from the bag, purposely tosses it onto the hard floor again, and leaves it there. Again, this is from a height of about 3-4 feet. She bends over and starts poking it with her finger, and sliding it across the floor back and forth. This employee leaves this poor crab on the floor while she again, aggressively attempts to remove another crab from rock work. The entire time she is telling us how these crabs “don’t do well in this Draper water” and “I don’t know why they send these to us.”
There were two other people standing along side of us watching this take place. The look on their face said it all.
This woman is cruel and had ZERO empathy for this animal. There are not enough words I can use to describe my disappointment, disgust, and anger in how she treated these creatures. It was difficult for me to still give this store my business after watching this, but I was not going to leave these fish for her to just casually throw back into a tank, or who knows what else. Ridiculous. I will...
Read moreWe have taken our dog to Petco Grooming since we got him. We recently moved to Draper and this was the third time taking him in. The first two experiences weren't great and today topped it off. When we picked him up the last time, we noticed he was a little upset. We didn't think much of it until we got there today. He normally loves to go in and see people, he's an extremely friendly dog with Humans. He tried to run out today while we were waiting for the groomer to grab him. Once she took him he very obviously didn't want to go back. I was hesitant leaving him, but decided to do so. When we got there I told the groomers what we wanted done and asked for a trim around his bum, she told me at first the groomer that was doing our dog couldn't do that and then 30 seconds later said it would be taken care of (it was not). When The groomer came out to get our dog the first thing she said was, "Make sure you're back by 5pm, we close then." It was 3pm and the groomer that checked us in said it would take 3-4 hours. There wasn't a post that said they close at 5pm and there store/grooming hours online and in store say otherwise. Like I have said we have been to this petco grooming 2 other times and to petco grooming at a different location for over a year. We tell the groomer everytime, he hates the blow dryer. He hates just about anything with a motor. She called me and told me that he "aggressively lunged" at her while she was trying go dry him, so instead she towel dried him. HE WAS SOAKED when we picked him up. There is no way he was towel dried. I understand her not using the dryer, thats fine, but to hand off a dog that is still dripping is another story. We paid for the de-shedding package plus and a bath, there are still parts on him that are matted and he doesn't look clean. Very disappointing. My husband picked him up from the groomer as I paid and he said she forgot to clean his ears and was doing so quickly, my husband said she was pretty rough and our dog was very unhappy about that. We will not be coming back to this groomer and I would advise others...
Read moreIf there’s an option for zero star, we’d give them zero star. We came in to buy a few fish from this location and we’d bought some before. They seriously need to train their staffs on how to take the fish out. First purchase, a couple of the green chromis died due to getting hit by the rocks. We were like okie maybe just bad luck. Second purchase, our flame angelfish didn’t even make it to our house (attached picture) and we live like 10 mins away from the store. While trying to catch our flame angelfish, they just used a net to push the rocks around and smashed and killed a couple fish and an anemone (attached picture). We came back on the next day since it was their closing time when we got the fish and talked to them; and all they said was there’s no guarantee on the salt water fish. The funny thing was the person, who did a bad job catching the fish, was standing right there and said nothing. We wouldn’t necessarily need a refund for the dead fish but we’d definitely like to get store credits since we felt like it wasn’t our fault. FYI, I wouldn’t recommend getting fish from this store since most of their staffs are not trained on catching the fish. If you really like the fish and see them doing that, just say sorry we’re no longer interested in it and walk away. Otherwise, you’d end up with a dead fish or more. We’d definitely not buying any fish from them anymore and tell our friends and family to do...
