Came to Burma Burma after a fun day of shopping at the Outlets and generally, enjoyed some pretty good Burmese food, considering the area.
We began with the obligatory tea leaf salad which was delivered pre-mixed. I mean, that's ok, but it also took away from the presentation which is one of the more enticing parts of this salad. Having said that, it had all the right ingredients and definitely satisfied the craving I've had for this salad for a while now. For a second appetizer, we ordered the samosas which were of a good size and stuffed with thoroughly spiced potatoes, onions, and peas. They were freshly fried and delivered piping hot with sweet and sour chili sauce on the side. I really enjoyed this dish - recommended!
For entrees, we went family style and ordered the pine nut fried brown rice and nan gyi dok as bases. The pine nut fried rice was delicious with the pine nuts and the brown rice both adding a unique nutty flavor! Recommended! The nan gyi dok was unfortunately not good which sucked because I love this dish. First, the dish was delivered pre-mixed which made all the crunchy bits (fried onions, fried wontons, yellow bean powder) soggy before delivery. Secondly, the curry was unexpectedly sweet which was kind of off-putting. There also just wasn't enough citrus to make the dish pop.
For meat dishes, we went with the lamb kebat and the basil/dried chili swai. Both of these dishes, though flavorful, were also very heavy handed on salt. If we didn't have the fried rice, there definitely was no hope of eating them individually. Between the two, I like the swai more. The bursts of fresh thai basil were delicious! The lamb did have mint leaves, but they were definitely hidden by the rest of the ingredients which is unfortunately because lamb and mint are a wonderful pairing.
All in all, dinner for 4 was filling and pretty tasty, easily a 3.5. I am rounding down for the service (or lack of). For the pine nut fried rice, we had originally ordered it with shrimp but it was delivered without it. Our waitress admitted that she forgot to put it in...which ok, I guess mistakes happen. While we wanted to send it back, we were also informed by the restaurant that they also wanted our table to be freed sooner rather than later because they had a big party coming. As a customer, it just felt rushed and like we...
Read moreSo I'd started writing the review for this place on Monday and took a pause to call the restaurant assuming they would be receptive to negative feedback.
However it was quite a rude shock to hear the push back for a take out order I'd got for Saturday (01/11) lunch.
We'd ordered a mango salad and string beans for myself and lemongrass chicken and home style fried rice for my husband.
We come home and I notice the green beans were not crispy as they usually are when we eat in... at the time i put it down to the fact that it could have gotten soft due to being in a take out box, though we live just 15 minutes away. We finish our food and both have an upset stomach.
When I call in I'm told by the manager 'if y'all sick you should go to the hospital... not saying you are lying but we always use fresh food and fresh meat'. It was such a shocker to hear that first instead of I'm so sorry you got sick.... how can we make it better.
Now we've eaten here multiple times and since I love the green beans and mango salad, I always order the same thing. We've never had issues with the food before but this was our first take out experience and it was so disgusting to say the least. Not because of the food or the fact that we got sick but because of the reaction to trying to give feedback subtly. I'd even mentioned the salad was fresh and nothing seemed wrong with it. But the rest of the food seemed to have an issue. Also I know it was not just the green beans that were the issue since my husband did not partake the beans and I being vegetarian, did not partake from his lemongrass chicken and fried rice. Now, if only I'd gotten sick, I would have pegged it down to huh could be anything since I have a sensitive stomach. But my hubby has an iron stomach and he usually never gets sick. For us to both be sick right after that food...And also we'd not eaten anything else since it was our first meal of the day and we obviously could not eat anything after for at least a day. Such a disappointing experience from a place I genuinely...
Read moreSo yummy. This place was very busy on a late Sunday afternoon, but we didn't have to wait long for a table for 6. The staff was extremely attentive and concerned about finding a table for us.
FAST service, the dishes came out too quickly. Next time I will wait to order entrees so we can set the pace.
Favorite dishes are: Tea Leaf Salad- this was vegan (no fish sauce + shrimp), which is great for vegans but I wish it was served with- still refreshing and tasty, but it was missing the depth of flavor Yellow Tofu- love the unique texture Lamb Kebat- so flavorful and tender lamb Palatha w/ Chicken Curry Eggplant w/ Garlic- an oily dish, but still very good
The only dish that we didn't love was a fried chicken dish that had pieces of fried chicken mixed with veggies. I don't remember what it was called- it was OK, just not a wow.
Gratuity was automatically added for a party of 6.
Will definitely come back when we are in the area, I wish there were more Burmese restaurants bc the food is so flavorful and delicious. This is a great place to bring those with dairy allergies, everything we ordered had no dairy. The location is convenient, close to...
