Go to spot for Korean tofu soup and stews!

My updated review is not based on the food, but rather on how the owner chooses to conduct himself in his restaurant, therefore lowering my 4 star rating to 2.
Was here with my two young children and this is a place that we used to frequent on a bi-monthly basis for more than 4 years. The last time we were here for dinner, and as usual all of the food was very tasty and service was good.
One thing I like to point out is that the male owner tends to bring in a lot of his friends. They have dinner & drinks and have a good time. We have nothing against that! But this last time, they were so loud and obnoxious, that it disrupted the rest of the restaurant. I noticed that my kids and other patrons would look over at them in disbelief of their behavior, example loud outbursts of laughter and screaming with fists pounding on the table continuously! Our table was just beside theirs, and when I looked over at the owner, he just stared me down and continued on with his friends unapologetically. As I mentioned, I was a regular patron of this restaurant, so he clearly recognizes me!
If you run a nice restaurant, then conduct it in that manner. However, if you want to open up a bar, then don't run an establishment where families gather. I was so unimpressed and turned off, that we will no longer will...
Read moreKorean cuisine has become one of our favorites over the last few years and my sweetie is a tofu lover, so we were pleased to discover Young Dong Tofu House. Even more pleased when we tried it, we recently made our second visit and it confirmed that we have a new favorite local Korean restaurant. She raved about the tofu and mushroom soup and the banchan were some of the tastiest we've ever enjoyed. Even the usually boring raw broccoli was delightful with a subtle sweet and spicy dressing.
My "dumpling ramen" was probably not the best possible choice - I guess the curly noodles made it "ramen" but the broth was red and spicy - delicious actually but unlike any ramen I've ever had. And I only found one dumpling, maybe a second one falling apart in the bottom of the bowl. It was actually a tasty lunch but I'll go for a different part of the menu next time.
Service was pleasant and quick and generous. We were "forced" to take refills of the banchan that we finished first.
There are five levels of spice offered, we went medium on both our soups and agreed that we would probably go one lower next time.
We're looking forward to taking friends...
Read moreSince moving out to San ramon, my family & I tried finding a local decent Korean restaurant! Been eating @ Young Dong for years now, it’s probably the best Korean food in the area (besides east bay- hayward/oakland)!
Attentive staff & quick service every time. Usually 2-3 women waitressing. The actual restaurant is simple, basic tables & chairs. Nothing fancy, But always clean. Working one person bathrooms. They have highchairs for the babies. And booster seats. Chopsticks and forks.
My favorite meat is Kalbi & Bulgogi…. Always get kimchee pancake to start. They have a delicious iced cold sweet rice drink with little pieces of rice at the bottom which I order every time.
Pretty decent side dishes…. We always ask for more honey potatoes and bean sprouts though. The radish soup hits the spot also… okay I’m getting hungry for Korean food writing this now…...
