We went here about 15 years ago when we first got together (interracial - Black and White couple) because I'm from the local area. I think I had read the ownership changed since that time, but the food was still great, clean place, and the staff members were great. We love this place and how we are treated.

We did dine-in and our food came out fast. We both did burgers, fries, and the shakes. It took me a few days to finish that big shake. The waitress was great, but I didn't catch her name (young White woman).

I know when we move in the area my wife is going to send me here every day to get her food.

Compared to places in Texas (where we live), the pricing was good. Some people in the comments seem to think restaurants like this should still have pricing from the 1950's, but the reality is inflation and the cost of having human capital (aka - employees) is huge for a business these days (we own multiple companies in Texas).

For better pricing comparison in your mind, the cost for both of us was LESS than just one of us getting a similar order in Texas.

If you want something cheaper you can always go to McDonald's dollar menu and get fake food, but I'm happy to pay more for quality service and real food and this...

The first thing I noticed was how white the interior of the restaurant is. The lights are all white and the walls are totally white. Since it's winter time, it made the inside of the building look and feel cold, so we left our coats on. The interior design of this place has no warmth at all.

Here you build your own burger and both my girlfriend and I noticed the bacon on both our burgers was tough and not easy to chew.

I also have to say how middling the fries were. I don't know if the people creating the menu here have ever had good fries in their life based off the overly thick, undercooked and unseasoned fries we were served. Maybe the owners should go try some fries from any other restaurant on planet Earth to see how fries should taste. I had to drown my fries in ketchup in order to finish them.

Also even though the interior of this building is like 100 square feet, our waitress seemed to go missing for large periods of time.

Overall, if you want to eat an okayish burger with a side of the worst fries in town, in a room that looks and feels like the inside of a refrigerator, you'll probably like Don's drive in.

P.S. Dear Don's Drive In owners, Throw the white LED light bulbs in the trash and get soft orange...

Very disappointed in the service we received yesterday. I went with my family (including myself it was 5 people) for dinner. In all fairness, when we first arrived it was busy, especially after the hockey game. The waitress took a while to get to us but it was completely understandable. We ordered our food and waited... waited some more and continued to wait. The restaurant was dying down, but get this: five other tables that were sat after us, ate and left. Mind you, two of these tables had 5 or more people in the party. The waitress never checked on us in the hour we waited, never refilled our glasses of water, nothing. It was almost as if we were forgotten. My family is very patient, very understanding but this was ridiculous. My mom went up to inquire about the food and finally we were served. Not once did the waitress apologize for the delay and when my dad asked the waitress what happened, she ignored him at first. I understand when it's busy, accidents happen. I used to work in a restaurant so I completely get it. But this was very poor service. Very sad since we really enjoy coming here. 2 stars for the food, but the service was...

Enjoy Classic American Breakfast at Don's Drive In in Traverse City During our recent visit to Traverse City for a sports tournament, my partner and I had breakfast at Don's Drive In, and it was a wonderful experience. This classic American diner has a retro interior and a menu that reflects its long history. Its a typical geasy spoon restaurant where you get the classic comfort food you want to. The service was welcoming, and the food came out fast and well-made. We were lucky enough to get a table right away since we arrived early, but as we ate, we noticed lines building up, so we recommend arriving early to avoid the crowds. Overall, Don's Drive In is a must-visit restaurant in Traverse City for anyone looking to enjoy a classic American breakfast in a welcoming atmosphere. Don's Drive In in Traverse City is a fantastic place to enjoy a classic American breakfast. With fast and friendly service, delicious food, and a charming retro atmosphere, this diner is definitely worth a 5-star review recommendation

Stopped in at Don’s Drive-In for dinner and was blown away. The vibe is fun and retro — exactly what you’d hope for in a classic drive-in. Staff were super friendly and patient, and the service was excellent. We each built our burgers (added cheese + bacon) and made them into baskets with fries and coleslaw. The total came out to about $15 each, and it was worth every penny. You can taste the difference because Don’s uses real beef from 4-H livestock, not frozen patties. We also shared a hand-dipped milkshake that was thick, creamy, and perfect. The walls are covered in 4-H letters and awards, showing how much Don’s supports the local community. That alone makes me feel better about spending money here — they give back, and you can see it. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. If you’re in Traverse City, Don’s is a must-stop for burgers and shakes.

From the moment I pulled into Don's Drive-In in Traverse City, MI, I knew I was in for a treat. The mid-century vibe was immediately inviting, and their friendly staff made me feel welcome. Their menu, filled with classic American fare, didn't disappoint. The burgers were flavorful, cooked to perfection, and the fries were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside - simply perfect. Their milkshakes deserve a special mention. Thick, creamy, and exactly the kind of indulgence you want from a drive-in. You can't go wrong with their cherry shake, a fitting tribute to Traverse City's cherry culture. Overall, Don's Drive-In provides an enjoyable trip down memory lane with delicious food that will bring you back for more. Highly recommended for locals and tourists alike.
