2025 Update: I recently returned to the Port of Peri Peri, and was honestly not the biggest fan. The management changed and it heavily reflects in the service, sanitation, menu, and atmosphere. The restaurant feels a lot less clean than it used to be. The sauce bottles were jammed, and no longer available to take without asking. The menus were very sticky and the counter was messy. The buffet table looks very tacky and unkempt. They now have Desi food, falafel, and Yemeni chai which is strange to me because this is advertised as a Portoguese restaurant. The food is still good but the wings were very very tiny. I hope the new management can take this review to heart and make some positive changes. 2021 review: Excellent experience! My customer associate Aban was a delight to work with. I catered a dinner for 50 (me and my fiance's family) and Aban took my order down perfectly as stated and even threw in 100 free sauces!! I was thoroughly impressed by his communication skills and his knowledge of Portuguese cuisine. I will definitely be coming back to this establishment as long as Aban is working here. #PortosTillIDie

I simply cannot recommend this place anymore. Portos was my GO TO place but since the previous owners sold it, it lost its charm. Prices went up (Tribos, also halal and same cuisine in Saddle Brook, sells the original platter for 5$ less and its the SAME thing), portions were meh, and they have strayed away from the Portuguese charm they once had. They tout their adeni chai and thier falafel but i ask, since when have yemen and egypt been inspired by Portuguese cuisine? They strayed far from their roots. The restaurant smells funky. I also included a photo of a wing, if you can even call it that. Its smaller than my thumb nail. Service went to crap too. Just me and my friend were in the restaurant and the food took 25 mins to come out. IM not sure how that's even possible. Also there was a table next to us that was dirty since we arrived and for the 45 mins i was there, no one had even touched it. This would be 1 STAR but the food taste remained consistent and they have a dedicated prayer space. I will NEVER be coming back to this location.

Heard a lot about this restaurant so finally decided to give it a try. You go into the restaurant, wait in line and order your food. After ordering, you’re given a table number which you place it on your table of choice. The place looks nice though it was pretty crowded when we went for dinner, as expected on a Saturday night. Service was moderately slow as there was lack of servers. We waited about 30 minutes or so for our food to arrive. The wings were a tad bit tangy for my taste but that’s just me. The chicken was cooked/grilled to perfection and was not dry on the inside by any means. You’d think that ordering $60 of food, they’d at least include a side or two with the meals but nope. We had to pay for the sides. They could definitely improve in lots of areas such as hiring more staff, taking orders at the table for dine-in customers etc. Overall, it was pretty good. Would go back soon! P.s. This establishment is Zabiha halal and is certified by HFSAA.

I am not happy with the food quality and the service . I Ordered whole chicken and 2 burgers and some sides. I paid almost like 100.00 +tip 14+service charge 7.00 . The food came out cold and it did not taste good so we asked to get it replaced and the lady replied I can re heat the half portion or replace it I don't remember but the the other half can not be replaced as some of them has been eaten. Now yes some of them was eaten by kids but they complaint that it was cold and it didn't tasted right and at that moment I didn't really Realize so they did eat some of it and some of it was in the plate that's when the kids complaint again so then I checked and I tasted the chicken and it did taste bad and cold. I am surprise that the lady didn't really care instead of her just replacing the whole portion she said she cant give the other half. I also mentioned to her that I am not happy with service but there was no reply from her or the person standing at counter who heard me I believe he was the owner but anyways The whole dine in Experience was a disaster. Cheese Burger was bland and chewy +cold Chicken burger was bland +cold The whole chicken was cold and bland The only thing which was warm that was the rice. I am not here to Go against anyone But I am not happy with the Experience as when we were leaving no one bothered to say bye or something at least about the complaint nothing really . no one checked of how the food was . The service charge of 7.00 and the tip 14 dint not really matter. I will not be coming back and will not recommend it to any one . I have read the Reviews and what I have mentioned its true . Please read the lowest Reviews and I Experienced the same

I visited again and thought that things will be different but I had the same Experience again and I am very much Disappointed. I ordered a full chicken and a burger and it tasted bad so I asked the person at the front seemed like the owner and I explained my concerns Instead of him listening to me he started saying no one has complaint as he had it him self earlier and it tastes great, Now that's a sad part where is your customer service you should listen to the customer and address the issue in a proper professional way but instead he just didn't care as I even mentioned to him that I will not be coming back and said ok what ever. Anyways this was the last time for me and I will make sure I spread the words out even though I don't like to do this but this is the second time so I am done. Good luck with...

Horrible experience. Asked for a vegan burger, specified no sauce. It came out lathered in mayo and cheese. When I sent it back asking for it to be fixed I was told that it was vegan. We asked what vegan meant to them and they had no answer. The second burger came out on a different bun that was clearly egg washed. I brought it back up front and again asked them what vegan meant. They told me again that they didnt put sauce and that it was vegan. I tried explaining that I have an egg allergy and they were extremely dismissive and rude. They would cut me off telling me that they didnt add any egg. I told them that it was obviously a Martins bun and I know that they are not safe for me to eat. They went to the kitchen and clearly knew I was right but doubled down again still insisting. The chef said that he told me twice that there was no egg, the manager insisted as well that the mayo, cheese, and bun were all vegan. I kept asking for my money back and they would cut me off asking what I wanted. I told them that I was allergic to the food they were giving me and that they clearly have no respect for any of their customers dietary needs. I saw 2 women in burkas leave the building as we arrived and asked if their food was even prepared hallah since they clearly dont care to read labels or protect the people eating there. They were silent, for the first time. They showed me that my money had been refunded and pretended to apologise by saying that they did nothing wrong.

This was the second incident at a peri peri location and was really hoping it was the other location and not the brand but it is now clearly the entire company.

Tldr: if you have allergies, dietary or religious food restrictions, or care about those who do, do...

Been to this place 6-7x while passing through NJ. When they first opened it was great- clean space, nice atmosphere, good food (albeit pricey). The last few times the restaurant has had a slight bad smell, like dirty mop water. Yesterday my family went and the stench in the restaurant was terrible. The lady at the register said they were cleaning the grease trap out back (but smell was coming from dining area). Place is also not clean (bathroom, outdoor tables etc). Maybe they don’t use any cleaning solution/bleach to mop or sanitize anything, and that may be the source of the bad moldy stagnant water smell. Bathroom sinks in ladies were also faulty, a trickle of water when both knobs turned on max. I told my husband let’s leave, we won’t be able to eat here, but he was tired of driving and said we’d eat outside. We wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt since it’s halal. Food tasted fine except chicken was very salty. My kids and I had an upset stomach after we got home. Will not eat here again.

My advice to owner- maintain the place- fix anything broken like bathroom faucet and stall locks. Use bleach and soap to sanitize the place, especially the kitchen and bathrooms. Make sure the tables (indoors and outdoors) are wiped down once a day at least. And for the family platters, make the sides proportional to the meat- how are two small bowls of sides enough to eat with an entire chicken? The amount of rice is only enough...
