Came back here after several years because we remembered a delightful dining experience and were in the mood for dishes with fishes. The atmosphere remains contemporary, with an industrial feel to the restaurant due to the decor and setup of the bar and restaurant areas. The bar area, especially, seems to be ready to host large crowds after events like parades or busy Friday nights.
The hostess and all servers were very attentive and eager to help create a great dining experience. Truly, the people working here make for a charming dining experience. They were pleasant and helpful, polite and prompt.
Where the evening failed to live up to expectations was the food. It certainly wasn't bad, by any stretch of the imagination; however, it was just... okay. The adult dishes we ordered had nice flavors, but we're a bit underwhelming. The children's menu was a bland set of options that were tasteless and so bare-bones that they had no desirable flavor and created no enjoyment in our kiddos (Though, understandably, with all the adult dishes having mature flavors, the kids menu seems to be designed so even the pickiest of eaters would have a meal unburdened by spices or combinations of flavors: pasta was in a tomato-forward sauce without Italian seasoning, and french fries were shoestring and mildly salted, if not overcooked and crunchy... More of an afterthought on such a fish: forward menu, the children's menu takes no culinary skill to create.)
On the adult side of food offerings, the lobster bisque was in a tasty liquid, though very stingy portions of lobster meat were included, as of sprinkled on top for presentation rather than teaming with chunks of meat beneath the surface. It looked more like Parmesan cheese delicately presented on pasta. More meat would have made the dish divine!
The pan-seared scallops with butternut squash puree and pork were a nice combination of flavors, but the scallops looked more like they kissed the pan rather than that deep, flavorful sear that comes from cast iron. They were undercooked and watery, creating more of a soupy dish when combined with a bit of a loose butternut puree.
The dessert options to round out the meal also included disappointing elements, though the flavors of each option were good. For the kids, the mint chip milkshake was so dense that it took forever to even get the shake up the straw, with all the chips coagulated t to the bottom and the ice cream being frothed into a very dense shake, presented in a nice glass mug. The evening service at 5 PM saw the restaurant already out of the chocolate pecan pie (which, on it's own, sounded like a great choice; but, when the possibility exists to blend that pie into a milkshake, the level of disappointment to hear that it could not be done for lack of pie was quite the letdown). Creme brulee, was the ordered substitute and had a surprising lemony flavor, though the custard was a bit runny like the entree's puree has been. The large dollop of whipped cream that accompanied the brulee was unnecessary and an overwhelming option as a garnish.
In all, the service and staff at this restaurant make for an above-average experience, while the food and menu choices sound good, in theory, but don't write love up to their price tags. Having previous recollections of how much we enjoyed Third and Ferry several years ago, I think we set ourselves up for disappointment on this return trip. Memories taste better without confirming their truths. Still, I would come back here again, but only after sampling some other establishments for a more true comparison of the quality of the food in...
Read moreI had gone here a few years ago and remembered I enjoyed it and had always wanted to go back since. This year for my birthday, I decided I wanted to go here. My boyfriend called 2 weeks before to make the reservations for 6 pm on a Saturday night. We arrived about 5 minutes before 6 and the host told us it would be a few minutes wait until they got the table cleared. For us, that’s no problem. Do whatever you have to do. While we are waiting there are several people also coming in for their 6 pm reservation and several walk ins coming in to see if they can be seated. All the walk ins mostly left because of the wait. Everyone that had 6 pm reservations had to wait 15-20 minutes for their tables. When my boyfriend and I were finally walked to our table, we were taken down to the basement that only had seven tables in it. Normally, that sounds great! Nice and intimate. This wasn’t the case… the room was as bright as a dentists office, the music being played was not the same music being played in the restaurant upstairs, and it wasn’t even the same vibe as the restaurant. It was so bizarre. They didn’t even try to make this separate place as part of the restaurant. If felt like we were in an overflow room where they didn’t care about the diner’s experience. We felt very excluded and were extremely disappointed.
We were very upset about our ambiance but our experience just kept getting worse as the night went on. Our waitress barely came to check on us and when she did she made it seem like a burden. Didn’t explain anything to us. My boyfriend and I love trying all sorts of oysters so we were looking forward to trying some here of course. The waitress didn’t explain how the ordering system worked for the oysters so it became confusing when we were trying to ask what to do. We ended up ordering 2 of three different varieties. When they came out, a bus boy dropped them off. No explanation about which oysters were which and our waitress never stopped over to ask if we had questions. We loved two of the varieties but couldn’t tell you which ones they were so that was really frustrating. We would have come back just for the oysters at the bar!
As for the entrees, my boyfriend ordered the filet with the imperial crab topping and I ordered the Alaskan King Crab legs. Both came with French beans and a carmalized shallot whipped potatoes. Neither side was seasoned and the potatoes certainly weren’t caramelized shallot enriched. My boyfriends steak wasn’t seasoned either and the crab on top was almost like a crab cake mix and not just crab meat. My crab was over cooked. Sweet but slightly chewy. Our appetizer were great though.
Our entire meal was over $200. Which is exactly what we expected to spend for our drinks and food. It’s just a shame that we spent all this money on a place that clearly doesn’t care about the diners experience. My boyfriend felt so bad for me that he actually said he wanted to take me out next weekend to make up for our night here. We usually indulge in dessert and after dinner drinks too but needed to get out of there we were so upset.
This is the first review I have ever written and never thought I would write one but this experience was beyond...
Read moreFirst time here. I had their Margarita and the Lobster Roll and crab fries. Service was decent. Only because it was slow and we had to keep waiting for our server when there were 2 servers on and a total of 4 tables inside and outside. Made no sense.
Atmosphere was cute, the interior has this vintage feel, we sat outside and that was adorable. Terrible for the sun though, the wood planks above try to block some of the light but I think a sheer awning would help it was just to much no matter where I sat at our table I was squinting to see the other person across from me.
Food was good. I love a good Lobster Roll. This one wasn't bad besides it was smaller than expected. It did have a good amount of Lobster meat for its croissant size. But when I have Lobster Rolls I never have mustard on them. The menu stated mustard I don't mind it so I left it on when I ordered to try it. It was to much mustard and not for nothing I should have left it off. Also it didn't come with a side of butter to add to the Sandwich and the lobster wasn't that wet so it was as if the only thing buttered was the roll. Fries were skinny which made alot of them overcooked. So that kind of was a let down, the crab meat on them was decent but lacked any flavor. Margarita was decent as well if it had a bit more tequila it would be better and if they muddled some of the fruit first that also would have helped.
Idk i just feel like I had higher expectations then I got. In my opinion with all of the new restaurants being built in downtown there is no room to become complacent downtown now. You need to change your menus often or have specials that change every week, the lunch menu we saw was on cheap flimsy piece of paper not even card stock or on a clipboard, the options were nothing special. It took me 20 minutes to pick something. Idk I guess i have this outlook like if you want to stand out, do something different. There's nothing special or different about this lunch menu, makes me not exited to come back and try dinner and pay those prices.
The cook in the open concept kitchen is cool though! Oh sode note the bathroom is in such an...
