What a disappointment! A noisy and expensive one at that. The. There's an open kitchen and occasionally there were huge gouts of flames behind the counter so the room was stiflingly hot. The girl restocking plates behind the counter slammed them to the point that the sharp noise hurt our ears. This went on throughout dinner. In fact it was impossible to have a conversation over the thumping base of music that was hard to hear otherwise. I don't think I have ever been anywhere noisier. We could not hear anything the server said. We ordered Spicy Sautéed Calamari supposedly sautéed in marinara. The sauce was watery and weak with no spice to speak of. The calamari was tender at least and it came with a heel of bread. The plate of bread we ordered was scanty and doused in olive oil, not ideal for soaking up sauce. Two of us ordered Bud's Special Bolognaise. Bud must be vegetarian because there was little dicernable meat in it .It tasted more like vodka sauce overloaded with nutmeg. It's only redemption was the homemade pasta. I ordered off the specials menu which had no prices listed -Braised Short ribs, P armesan Polenta, topped with an egg (poached earlier in the day), and Broccoli Rabe . While it was delicious, there was only one very tiny short rib covered by a pile of fresh parsley. I think they put the egg on to add some ballast to a meager plate. The plain cheese pizza was just OK. The bill was a surprise. $38.00 for the short rib!! While I know dining out is a very expensive proposition everywhere, our final bill was very high for what we got. Two plates of meatless Bolognaise-$56.00. And so on. We found out during the meal that there was a much quieter dining area in another room that we could have asked for had we known. The website was odd with every menu course followed by the wine list of over $100.00 bottles of wine. You had to keep backing out to get to the next course, a tedious process. All in all, a very mediocre experience. We all left less than satisfied and disappointed in what we'd read was an...
Read moreWe attempted to call to make reservations ahead of time. They told us they do not take reservations, but can put our names on a call list 20 minutes prior to arrival. We did, and after strolling in 20 minutes later, we were told that it would be about a 40 minute wait. So what is the point of a call list if they don’t put our names down until we walk through the door? What an odd and useless system.
Once we were seated after about half an hour, we were not offered any bread to start. Not sure if it’s the restaurant (but what Italian place doesn’t start you off with bread?) or our waitress just forgot. We started off with risotto balls, which were delicious. The exterior was crispy, and yielded to a perfectly seasoned, creamy risotto mixture. It paired very well with the tomato and pesto sauce. For my entree, I chose the agnolotti con mozzarella. Although my dish was supposed to come with sun dried tomatoes, it came with a garnish of regular diced tomatoes instead.
My friend ordered the bolognese, and was upset upon realizing that they added a ton of cream to the sauce. Bolognese traditionally does not incorporate cream, but his dish came out a very light red/orange color, indicating that a copious amount of heavy cream was used. My friend does not like dairy, and so we asked the waitress if there was something that could be done. She just replied “we put a touch of cream and that’s how they’re all made so we can’t do anything about it”. First off, it was more than a “touch” of cream. Secondly, that must mean that the sauces are not prepared fresh if there was no way the chef could make a bolognese sauce without cream. My friend had to swap his dish with another one from our group since they were not willing to accommodate this issue.
My suggestion is if you are going to put your own spin on a traditional dish, include that in the menu description. Bolognese should not be drenched in cream, but if you choose to do so, please...
Read moreWe were there to celebrate 2 birthdays. There were 11 of us. We had a horrible experience. 5 of us ordered the short ribs. There was one very small piece of short rib a lot of broccoli rabe and polenta. The short rib, explained by the person that did taste it, had excessive pepper. The broccoli rabe, which was served with almost every entree, was so bitter it was inedible. For those that eat and cook broccoli rabe we know it can be excessively bitter if not cooked correctly. When we expressed our concerns to the manager. She said we were “ attacking “ her. Then she asked if we asked what size the short rib was before ordering it. We explained that short ribs are not normally priced per ounce as filet, ribeye etc are and if it was it should have been on the menu and that’s why we didn’t ask. The manager says that the owner writes the menu descriptions. The short rib on one of the plates was about 3 ounces and the manager agreed that it was. The manager offered to get us different meals. My husband and I chose not to so we didn’t eat at all. The conversation with the manager was ended by us telling her she had other guests there that didn’t need to hear all of this. One entree, a chicken cutlet, was so thin it was the thickness of the light breading on it and it was cold. One entree was served 10 minutes after all others came out. Others had issues as well not getting their meal as as specified. We had to go to the bar and get our own drinks and pay for them there as the waitress didn’t check after she asked the first time if anyone needed refills. Our night was completely ruined and with two people not eating at all and a very minimal alcohol amount on the check, we paid $840. I don’t mind paying higher prices for quality food and service, but that was not the case here. So for those of you with fine dining experience and know what to expect, this is not the...
