I would like nothing more than to write a glowing review of this salon. The atmosphere is great and the salon is trendy and clean. However, after my most recent interaction, I really can’t.
In the first week of April I called to make an appointment for a trim. No dye, nothing particularly complicated, but I do have mildly wavey/curly hair and it’s worth going to a stylist who knows curly hair. I’ve been to this place twice before, so I expected to make an appointment knowing I might not be able to get a spot for a week or two out because they are so booked.
I was told my usual stylist is no longer with the salon. Okay no big deal. I asked if I can make an appointment with a different stylist then. The salon requires customers to put down a deposit for half the estimated price of the cut whenever you see a new stylist. I understand it, but I have a problem with this policy. I’ve been to this salon two other times, so I wasn’t exactly a new customer. And it’s not like I was choosing to see a new stylist on purpose. But they require it so I accepted the terms because I didn’t feel like hassling with finding a completely new place. They only do paper receipts though and I booked over the phone, so I have no confirmation or record from them that my deposit was received.
My appointment was scheduled about a month out from the day I booked it. That’s a pretty long time, but that’s when one of their stylists that cut curly hair could see me at a time that worked for me, so I was fine with waiting. They confirm they have my deposit and it’s all settled.
A week before the appointment I get a call confirming the time and date. Everything is all good.
The day before my appointment comes and I get another call saying there was a clerical error and the stylist was accidentally double booked for this time. How they hadn’t noticed she was double booked until the day before, I will never understand given they had already done confirmation calls the week before. They ask if I want to reschedule, but the original stylist I was scheduled for doesn’t have any availability for another 3 weeks, so I might have to wait almost another month. My availability is pretty reasonable, but apparently there just isn’t any openings. Or I could see a different stylist in another week at a similar time if that works. She’s not one of the stylists who they usually schedule for curly hair, but it should be fine because she has experience with it elsewhere.
I took the appointment for the next week with the different stylist and immediately regretted it as soon as I hung up the phone. The sunk-cost fallacy was strong. I had already waited so long, I liked my previous experiences at the salon, and I had already put the money down, but in the end I really couldn’t justify paying that much for a basic trim and waiting another week for a stylist that wasn’t even the one I booked with and put a deposit on. I cancelled a week before my rescheduled appointment with them, which I might add is significantly more notice than they had given me, I asked for my deposit back, and I made a new appointment with a different salon that could see me much sooner.
If the salon sees this, please please please invest in a computer system to organize your appointments, notes, and payments. I get it, stuff happens. But honestly, and I truly do not intend to be mean here, a salon of this price and well-thought reputation has almost no excuse for such blatant clerical errors in double-booking stylists and giving their clients so little notice or options to fix the salon’s own admitted mistake. Also, it’s a little concerning that you can take payments over the phone but you have no way of sending receipts digitally, especially given that your current paper system of recording things is clearly not foolproof and your own policy requires deposits.
I was really hoping to be a long time client....
Read moreI had the worst experience at this salon and I’m tired of seeing them all over. They took advantage of me when I was a 17 year old lady and I think about it often. I paid at the time around 300$ + TIP. Here is what I got and here is how the OWNER left me once she “fixed” my hair.
EDIT : Thanks for your response, but I need to clarify a few important points, especially since my experience involved two visits to your salon.
I originally came in for a blonde root touch-up. I left with visible “racing stripes”—uneven bands of color that looked nothing like the natural blonde blend I requested. I’ve had blonde hair many times before without this kind of issue, which is why I chose your salon based on its positive reviews.
I came back hoping the mistake could be fixed. Instead, I was told there was no way to correct it, and the solution was to dye my entire head burgundy—a color I never asked for. So after spending over $300, I walked away with my blonde ruined and a completely different hair color.
To suggest that I had “extremely damaged hair” is also surprising and honestly not true. My hair was in fine condition before your service. It’s disappointing to see that kind of claim being used to shift blame rather than take responsibility for the outcome.
You mentioned I “left happy” and even tipped. I want to be clear: I was 17 years old, felt intimidated, and honestly didn’t know how to speak up for myself. I was upset but didn’t want to cause conflict I thought tipping was just the polite, expected thing to do. That doesn’t mean I was satisfied; it means I was uncomfortable and trying to do the right thing under pressure.
Finally, being told that forehead staining is “common” doesn’t make it acceptable. I’ve never left another salon with dye on my skin or my hair in such a state EVER.
I left my review because I believe in honest feedback especially for younger clients who may not feel comfortable speaking up in the moment. I trusted your salon and was genuinely disappointed by both the results and how the situation...
Read moreI normally do not write reviews, but I have to with this circumstance. My hair has been a wreck for the last two years. I have had nightmare-ish stories at salons and I lost trust and faith in any salon I went to. I usually went into a salon, skeptical, and with little hope that my hair would be fixed. I was never happy with my hair and I would constantly dye my hair, hoping another color would make me happier. Nothing worked and every salon I went to never lived up to my expectations. Sometimes I would go to a salon, and leave with hair worse than it was when I came in. But Niki at Hair to Dye For did an amazing job with my hair. I came in with overly processed, bleached hair and I left with soft, pretty locks of hair that felt like I never bleached it (3 times over the span of 2 months) in the first place. I also wanted something that was professional yet fun and she delivered! I will definitely become a regular at this salon. I am beyond impressed and so happy I FINALLY found a salon that not only makes your hair healthier, but prettier as well. The transformations are amazing! I highly recommend! Go here if you need a...
