Dined here as a party of 4, my husband and I and my cousins, on March 23, 2025. Our server was Erica. We were greeted kindly and then things went DOWN HILL VERY FAST. Our server took our drink order and one cousin, who ordered an unsweet tea, asked if they had any "pink" (packets). Our server said she could bring her one or two but didn't have very many to which my cousin said, "that's fine...I don't need a lot".
This, or maybe something else entirely, must have set off our server. The drinks came and my other cousin (very nicely) asked for a new glass... the chilled one that was brought to him for his beer looked like it had dishwashing residue on it. Again, I want to repeat... he didn't want to be "that guy" so was very nice in his request. We already felt tension over the pink packets so he was hesitant to even ask. She walked off to the kitchen shaking her head and mumbling something to the lady that was "boxing" leftovers.
We ordered our entrees...my husband and I ordered salad but our cousins did not. An HOUR goes by (we arrived at 5:30) and in that hour we noticed that other tables had been getting their salads. A couple that my cousins knew had even come in, eaten and LEFT!, so my husband asked "could we possibly get our salads?" Our server walks off to the kitchen, again shaking her head and mumbling. When she brought the salads out, she said very loudly "there's no charge for the salads". We told her she didn't have to do that but thank you. Our food was brought out without incident, except she repeated AGAIN very loudly, "no charge for the salads". When re-filling drinks, she filled the tea so fast that it splashed out onto my cousin who scooted her chair back to wipe off. By this time it's just comical (but realistically sad) how much this woman must hate her life. When she cleared the table, she darn near took my husband's nose off with his plate. She brought the two bills and repeated a THIRD TIME, very loudly, "no charge for the salads". Good Lord...
So what I want to say is... the FOOD at Sugo was phenomenal. In all we had Lasagna (huge portion), Veal Parmesan, Tortellini and Shrimp Scampi. Did I mention how fantastic the Bread is?? Truly! But I sincerely hope there are cameras and that the owners can review because something needs to happen with their servers. My husband and I had come from a friend's funeral to meet up with cousins whom we don't get to see very often. It would have been an absolutely PERFECT experience as the food, again, was to die for.
I'm sorry Sugo but I won't be back. There's great food all over Edwardsville and I believe your servers are hurting your business. Not ONE of them looked happy... the young blonde looked like she...
Read moreWe live in Edwardsville and saw this picture of their fresh baked bread on Facebook. We decided we wanted to try this place. So I did a little research and they are locally owned and the owner has roots in the large Italian community of true authentic Italian restaurants in St. Louis. Plus I heard about their meatballs being huge and that you get 2 in one order. At this point we were ready to place an order. We were on a movie marathon so we decided to order take out. We got the menu online and decided on a Caesar salad, spaghetti and meatballs, and their lasagna. I called in the order which only took a second the person picked right up. Once she had our order she said everything would be ready for pickup in 20 minutes. When we got there it was the first time I had been in their parking lot. They are located in a very nice building with a large parking lot. Most of the spots at the very front of the lot right next to the building were handicapped parking and no stairs so it is very accessible. I went in and was greeted by the hostess and let her know I had an order for pick up. She asked my name and went to retrieve it. While I waited I was greeted by the manager of the front of house (I assume as she was smartly dressed and helping customers when she communicated with me). Within a minute the hostess was back with my order which had a fantastic amount of the bread in the bag that had sparked my interest in the first place. When I paid it was in the old school where you sign a paper receipt and it not a screen asking you to add 20% to your order. I liked this because I don’t like feeling forced to tip when I’m not eating in. The food was well packed and packaged. The portions were large as is expected when ordering proper Italian in St. Louis and I did try to eat my lasagna I could not finish it. It was very good. The sauce was cheesy and tomatoey with pepper and herbs bits throughout. The lasagna itself was firm and not mushy from being overcooked or reheated and the spaghetti and meatballs did not disappoint either. The meatballs were the size of tennis balls and there were two of them. The noodles were right on target and the sauce to noodle ratio was excellent. The sauce tasted mild not sweet and not spicy but it was still a complex sauce garlic onion herbs definitely. Salad was basic but that’s what makes a Caesar good fresh greens parm and a creamy dressing. The bread ended up being my favorite part. It was so good and so much reminded me of the bakeries on the Hill in St. Louis and it was also laced with herbs so it was a very flavorful bread and chewy. I dipped it in my lasagna tray and it was so delicious. So 5 stars. Eat here. Also everything I ordered total...
