Blue Box Cafe — Restaurant in Elgin

Hate to give a negative review for local biz, but we did address our concern at the counter before we left and they shrugged it off.

We ordered one breakfast sandwich and one Rueben Rueben. Total bill $18. On the Rueben we got literally one thin piece of corned beef. That sandwich is $10 with tax. We ate it, flavor was good but we asked them if that’s the correct meat portion, they said oh well normally it’s two pieces of meat. It’s basically a coleslaw sandwich. And you have to pay extra if you wanted chips or pickle.

Only other atmosphere critique is they play music so quietly you feel like you should whisper in there or your conversation is echo-ing in the whole cafe.

Disappointing because they are walking distance for us. Probably won’t go...

i stepped in because it had been a couple of years since i’d been back and realized i’d never tried their coffee before. When i got in i was shocked to see how much it has changed, not even any menus hung up which was not only sad but kinda annoying. staff was super friendly and the latte was amazing !!!!!! but it’s so sad that the place lost all its whimsy and fun. i’m guessing because of what happened they’re under new ownership but it was very sad to see. at least add the menus back on display 😭 and the online menu is different from the one in store there was no jammie dodger on the...

2025: Still doing great, sandwiches are yummy, teas and soups. Only a few times they forgot my bacon in my grilled cheese, I like how you can build your own! SO good.

2016: Yummy place. The coffee's are so good, I just wish you opened earlier. The sandwiches and the salads are good. The tortilla soup is amazing. Definitely try the Gobbler.
