Dunn Brothers Coffee — Restaurant in Elk River

Kind of a weird vibe- it seems to be great for regulars, but not very newcomer friendly. My partner and I were here for the first time. We had no idea how ordering worked because we were deciding then suddenly being asked what we wanted by an employee ten feet away while there were people still physically in front of us. So the ordering process was a bit confusing, since it's not a standard "wait your turn then order at the register" situation, they just ask you once they've decided you've been looking at the menu long enough. I got a breakfast sandwich, excited that they have gluten free english muffins since I am highly gluten intolerant. When I ordered, the employee said "Do you care about cross contamination?", which was quite possibly one of the strangest things to have been said to me when ordering gluten free. Like obviously lol? Very very strange to not just assume you should keep things cross contamination free. The sandwich was also very bland. (The GF english muffin wasn't the best texture either but I don't think that's any fault of the shop or employees; it's a real hit or miss with gluten free breads.)

The drinks, however, were pretty good. I got an iced oat pumpkin latte and my partner got a caramelized almond latte, which was really really good.

Also, the employees didn't mind that we stayed quite a while, which I appreciated.

It's a little harder to get to, now that the construction on 169 has their exit closed, but worth the little extra effort for the best coffee that's roasted in house. Mickey (the Owner) is a chatty little spitfire with a great personality, and it's always a pleasure to be served by her, which is often :). The staff that she has are always friendly and polite. Bailey, Madelyn (Maddie), Marissa, Abigail (Effy), and Jodi are joyous to be around. I'm not sure if that's everyone, but those are who I've met so far and have seen most recently. The brew coffee is always hot and fresh, FRESH ROASTED BEANS also available by the pound, with TONS of coffee/non-coffee options as well. One of the ONLY coffee shops that offers a 20oz Nitro Cold Press, and it is Devine. Have had their breakfast biscuit sandwiches and some of the fresh baked goods and never had any complaints. We ordered two mocha frappes with an extra shot of espresso. Taste like straight up the end of coffee grounds. No mocha. And then when I call the store the manager that made them sitting here arguing with me about how they taste. They taste like a straight old grounds ice coffee. I get this every morning and I will never go back to this location. Had I called them to confirm and let them know what was going on after my fiance left. And she said and joked about it on the phone and then she's like. Oh you can come back and I'll remake them after she sitting here and deny him over the phone to me.
