Everyone wants to belong, to be a part of something and, we all seek purpose and want to belong. Abilities Cafe provides jobs for folks who may not fit into some career categories but they still have skills and abilities to offer the world but, sometimes it can be hard to find someone to give you an opportunity to shine. Abilities Cafe is that opportunity. Abilities gives people a hand up in the job market by providing a sense of purpose and an all inclusive environment showcasing the hidden abilities of an underserved population. My brother is MRDD and was never given an opportunity to contribute to society because of his special needs. Someone took a chance on him and learned that he was good at sorting colors. He was trained how to recycle different colors of paper and he was the BEST paper sorter, it was incredible how much joy it brought him and gave him something positive to look forward to, it gave him a sense of belonging, it gave him the ability to have a purpose and feel good about himself. Abilities Cafe is the opportunity to grow, to learn to find where you fit into life. The food is delicious, old style diner food, hearty, delicious, generous portions and outstanding service by people who look forward to doing a good job and who take pride in the business. Take a moment and explore their delicious home baked goods too. Everything is made with love and I've yet to try anything I didn't like. Need some fresh baked bread for sandwiches? Abilities Cafe makes some delicious fresh bread and they will also slice it for you at no extra charge. Don't come in to eat if you're in a hurry and demand perfection, come in because you want to enjoy the experience and know your food is being crafted with love, one plate at a time and know life isn't perfect but, if we all step back, take a deep breath and enjoy the moment, you'll have the ability to appreciate what life is all about, good food, good people and a good cause for our community.

Read moreI mean, it was a cool place. It looked cool but there were multiple people who came in and ordered after us. After over 45 minutes, we had to leave.
We notified the waitress when they brought over the wrong order. 20 minutes later, we decided to take our leave and notified one of the waitresses. As we were leaving, we over heard a conversation between the waitresses. One of them was actively entering our order into the system and the other was there to cancel the order.
They had a sign saying they accept disabled people to work and the waitress did say she was forgetful. Seeing that is the case, someone should be checking in on her to make sure she does her job right. They also said "we aren't used to having this many people" but the place wasn't even half full and the outside tables were not in use.
The people were very nice but they completely forgot our order. Our food wasn't at the pass or in the system. The food in the 4 orders for the people who came after us looked good, especially the french toast. It would've been nice to try some of it. I hope no one has to wait for their breakfast as long as we did.
We were able to check out Lox and Stocks bagels after. If anyone has a bad experience in this diner, this is a...
Read moreThis place is FANTASTIC and they have gluten free options as well as a very extensive menu of delicious food! I had the eggs Benedict (5 stars!) and I am picky about my hollandaise sauce. My husband had the sweet cream pancakes and says they are the best pancakes he's ever had, this coming from a pancake connoisseur. Our son had a gluten free meal, a cheeseburger and fries. The meal was absolutely perfect and the staff was friendly and kind. We truly enjoyed this visit and will return time and time again!
I'd like to encourage everyone to support this community business. WHY? Because Juliann Fitzgerald has provided a valuable community resource to bring the community together and facilitate employment and EMPOWERMENT opportunities to individuals with varying abilities and disabilities.
When you visit, open your heart and the rest will follow. Also, be kind. Understand the mission and support, instead of criticize. The individuals working here are working hard and it shows in every bit of the experience.
Thank you Juliann, for bringing this opportunity to our community to come together, to connect with one another, and to support those who seldom are given opportunities to shine. You and your...
