Not authentic, way overpriced, illness waiting to happen. I ordered pho ga and pork banh mi. Sandwich was 5" maybe, then cut in half to share with a friend- smallest Vietnamese sandwich I've seen. Pork had no flavor and was chewy and barely warm. There was no pate (looks like they charge extra for the authentic ingredients) and no lemongrass. Soup was bland/watery and served with wrong kind of spoon, out of basil. Out of basil? It was only noon and there is a grocery store walking distance away! What's worse is that she acted like there was nothing wrong/missing as she handed me the plate of cilantro. I asked about it and she replied, "sorry, we're out of basil." (This of course took place AFTER I paid). At the self-service silverware bar I had to toss several dirty forks aside to find a clean one and the chopsticks were sitting in a pool of liquid(?). Cook was a cute Hispanic woman, American cashier, and an American (likely from a Korean family) made the sandwich- no Vietnamese staff present during my visit.
My references: multiple trips to Vietnam with a partner from Vietnam and eating at well over 25 different Vietnamese restaurants along the west coast.
Read between the lines on the other reviews. One says "Best pho!" then says it was their first time trying pho. "Recommend for someone who has never tried Vietnamese food before" speaks for itself. Most have never ordered in-store and have no idea what real pho...
Read moreHad a bad feeling about this place right from the start just based off of the vibes. My roommate and I went only because our first restaurant option was closed, and this place happened to be close by. Upon walking in, the feng shui is incredibly off. It’s laid out like a Subway, but somehow with even worse decor. Half of it is Crate and Barrel modern, and half is 2006 bohemian art deco. Our service was subpar, not super friendly but nothing to complain about. The pho is actually pretty damn good, which I found to be one of the few redeeming qualities. But the banh mi was just disappointing, with the bread being soaked through midway through our meal and the quality of the mean being less than desirable, though it did have a decent amount of flavor. The strangest part, though, was the fact that during our meal, two women walked in who embodied both mine and my roommate’s idealized versions of ourselves from when we were in grade school. We felt as though this restaurant was a strange parallel universe that we were unlucky enough to be in. The 2010 radio hits played over the speakers in there didn’t help that feeling, either. Would not recommend unless you’re bored with the current version of yourself and would like a...
Read moreWe decided to try Bon Mi based on the reviews & we love pho & bun. What a disappointment. I usually have bun & my husband does pho. He decided to have bun. My bowl had weird vermicelli and the sauce was watered down vinegar. My husband ordered what we thought was fried rice bun since on the menu it was listed under bun. It was spicy FRIED RICE they called bun. Whaaat? So he got a big plate to serve 4 people of fried rice. There were no peanuts on either dish. This place is the worst what a waste of $40. This is fake Vietnamese food. Don’t understand the ratings maybe college students that don’t know any better. Trust me if you want real pho or bun shop around. This was bad. The salad rolls were okay not enough peanut sauce & they don’t have sweet & sour sauce. Don’t waste your money on fake Vietnamese food. I am sorry to have to write this review but I...
