Unique and beautiful, the 505 Eugene felt like a home, instead of a typical sterile hotel room layout. ||Its excellent location close to everything allowed for short walks to shops, restaurants, bars, movie theater, performing centers, and more. It is however, one block away from the train station, which can be convenient if you plan to travel that way, but may be too loud for some, especially early in the morning (6am train activity could be disruptive to sleep). They do provide one set of earplugs, which helped enough, but bring extra pairs if there are more people in your party because…||…there is no lobby, front desk or any staff on site. It’s a completely contactless check in/out process. They do provide clear instructions with building and room codes. Check in is at 4 pm, which is a little late in my opinion. My flight arrived around noon, and I didn’t want to carry my luggage everywhere all afternoon. A quick phone call solved the issue, and I was able to leave the bag in a secure storage area. Their 10 am checkout is also too early. Upon checkout, they request that a dishwasher load with any used items is started, but they take care of everything else. ||The entrance to the building consists of a couple of steps leading up to a black door with a small sign, between a piercing studio and a bookstore, directly across from the Post Office building. I’m writing all this because my Uber driver wasn’t sure where to drop me off. ||There are seven uniquely decorated units. I stayed at the Nordic 201, which is a corner studio room with three windows. It had a nice bathroom with a walk in shower, a full sized kitchen, a cozy living room area, and a bedroom that was large enough to tightly fit a queen bed, a tiny side table, and an (open) closet area. A sliding wood door provided bedroom privacy. ||In summary, the 505 Eugene is a unique, cool and comfortable place to stay, near everything (as pointed out by a local friend). The contactless process was easy to figure out, and the staff responded promptly to questions or requests via phone/text. Despite the check in/out times and some outside noise, I will definitely stay here next time I’m in Eugene, perhaps trying a different room just for...
Read moreI wish I could give a better review of this The Storyteller, but this might be one of the most uncomfortable places I've stayed. Parking is unclear and not very convenient. There was NO indication in my reservation that there are 24 steep steps leading to the rooms and there is no elevator. The entrance is nearly impossible to find. Two steps lead up to the black entrance door next to a piercing salon.
When we entered our room, we were impressed by the decor and charm, but upon entering the closet sized bedroom with a very low mattress that was on a very short platform and the TINY bathroom with a 15 inch wide entrance to the shower we were not as impressed. No night stands. This is not anyone's fault since the space is so tiny, but it was unexpected.
The room slants downward towards the windows, so it might give one the sense of unbalance. It's weird when lying in the bed.
The mattress sagged in the middle. I couldn't deal with it, so I slept on the very squeaky sofa bed with a very thin mattress, which is usually the case with sofa mattresses.
We stayed two nights and took sink baths, instead of showering, since we didn't have hot water the first two days. On the third day we had warm water, but no hot water.
The only lighting in the living/kitchen area is harsh blinding strings of light over the sofa. It looks cute when the lights are off though.
The kitchen was nice and had everything one needs. The coffee maker is a Keurig and we had two coffee pods in the room, so if you use Keurig at home, I suggest you take pods, since there will be no one to give you extras.
Lastly, the train across the road will wake you up a couple of times in the early morning. It is startlingly loud. The free foam earplugs will not...
Read moreI cannot recommend you stay here. The pros: I received excellent service via text message and email. For example, when I could not find the switch for the under cabinet lights before I went to bed, someone got back to me at nearly 10pm to tell me they were in an unlikely spot in the cabinet. (I had to get on a chair to turn the switch off.) Although they do not have any place for people to store luggage after checkout, I was given a one hour extension that allowed me to take a meeting downtown. The check-in process worked as described. ||Unfortunately, the cons outweigh the pros. This location is near a train that woke me every night at 2am, 4am, 5am etc. I am typically a heavy sleeper and this is not a train rumbling past — it is a horn repeatedly blasting at all hours of the night. I imagine the problem is made worse by broken window fastenings. (See attached photos.) There were dirty dishes in the cabinets with obvious food stains still on them. Every knob in the kitchen was loose. The ventilation system was incredibly loud. ||Overall, the quality was deeply unacceptable for $600/night. I want to be honest because I was very disappointed after reading so many positive reviews...
