Only writing a review because we were burned by two separate places within an hour of each other, and neither place wanted to fix their mistakes. I’m so hungry tonight I want to cry, it was supposed to be a fun night with my husband.
We came here because the guy at Iyazaki Jinsei ADMITTED to giving us misinformation, overcharged us, he accused us of lying about the food we said said we ordered and hadn’t received, and ultimately left me, a hungry pregnant lady, without much food because I shared what I thought was only part of my meal with my husband... Read the review I left on their page for exact details. He didn’t provide a receipt and apologized for HIS mistake but still wanted to charge me more for what he did wrong. I originally didn’t want to fight and we decided to just leave without causing more issues.
Anyways, my husband was going to try the sushi at the other place while we waited on the food I thought we ordered (because we really didn’t have a problem waiting and the food was really good), but cancelled the second order upon hearing that the guy screwed up our first one. I wanted to make him happy and get myself something to eat so we came here to order him his unagi nigiri and shrimp tempura, and I ordered a karaage chicken combo. We got home, opened the food, and realized we hadn’t received the shrimp tempura and received some sort of roll with stuff neither of us can or want to eat inside.
I DID call this place when I saw it was wrong because I really needed to make sure my chicken wasn’t seafood (since I’m pregnant) and to see if we could get my husband’s shrimp replaced. They really didn’t want to do anything about it, said it was too late since we already went home with it (it was a take out order btw) until I told them we can’t even eat what they gave us and charged us for. Then he told me if we run down really quick MAYBE they could figure something out. We live in super North Eugene. We weren’t gonna make it before they closed unless I went without food for the SECOND time in the same night.
So yeah, probably won’t go here again either. Two times in the same night the cashier has made the mistake, and I’ve been blamed for it. We lost over $80 between the two...
Read moreI've been here twice so far. The food is good, they have a nice selection of menu items, the prices seem reasonable based on what is displayed on the menu. However, the first time I came in, my order was 15 minutes late (so it took them a total of 45 mins to make) which is fine because they were busy, but I would've expected them to be a little more organized and upfront with me about wait time. Since my first visit happened on a particularly busy night I decided to give them another visit on a day that wasn't so busy.
I'm assuming the lady who was ringing me up was the manager.
She required me to leave a tip for takeout before I even got my order. She was watching what I was doing on the screen after I scanned my credit card and whenever I selected “no tip” she would pull the tip screen back up and I couldn’t finish the transaction until I actually left a tip. She did something similar again when there was an option for me to receive a receipt. Before I could make my own choice, she pressed the no receipt button (she did it super fast, too). Call me old fashioned, but tips are earned from good service. I can't tell you how many times I've tipped before receiving the good or service I paid for only to be disappointed because something was missing or incorrect. That's not fair to me.
Also, I ordered a roll combo that was $10.50 according to the menu, a bowl of miso soup that was 1$ according to the sign at the counter, and an extra roll that was 7.50 according to the menu. But I was charged 20.50 before the tip was “required”. My total should have only been $19, maybe $19.50 if the extra spicy mayo I asked for was an additional 50 cents. The problem is not the dollar amount, but the principle. I was overcharged and I was required to tip on top of that. That alone is poor service and isn't tip-worthy.
Then when I got home I realized one of the items I ordered didn't match the description on the menu. I ordered the roll combo that included the spicy salmon roll, according to the menu it was supposed to have deep fried unagi on top, but what I received did not.
I enjoyed the food here, but won't be...
Read moreBeen here several times so I can write a competent review. Pros: sushi is decent for the price. It isn't amazing but it's good enough for how much the basic rolls cost. I spend more at other places by far. Spicy mayo and sriracha are self-serve at one of the counters so you don't have to pester for it. Pay up front and bus yourself. Some might consider that a con but I personally like not waiting for the check
Cons: parking sucks. Next to university so not free before 6 and it's always hard to find a spot nearby. Owner of the place is really unfriendly. Every time I order takeout she sounds depressed. I order she says "is that everything" and I say yes. Then she hangs up without saying goodbye. She clearly doesn't have a passion for the restaurant business anymore. Tables aren't very clean, you'll always see at least one or two dirty ones.
So why did I give 4 stars? Sushi is decent and cheap. And in the end that's what I care about. If that's all you care about then great. But if you're looking for a nice sushi place to sit down with your family...
