Here's the thing about Falling Sky - you love it at first, and then the more you go, you notice some problems. I'll say up front I've been to this place at least 25 times, probably more, since they first opened. The ambience is a bit loud and cafeteria style, but clean. Excellent bathrooms. The food is really hit or miss. First time I had the poutine it was awful, second time I had the poutine it was amazing. The quality of the food really fluctuates, perhaps because of different cooks or different ingredients. My burger has been medium rare, medium, and overcooked at times, without asking how I'd like it done. The other, and probably biggest problem with the food are the portions. Most dishes are just tiny (with the exception of the poutine which is a gargantuan sloppy mess and cannot compare with poutine from Quebec - it's all in the gravy). All dishes are way overpriced. A burger with bacon and no cheese for $13 is too steep. The specials are generally the more overpriced/small portion dishes. The garden burger is delicious and I hate nearly all garden burgers. They had a crispy chicken sandwich on the menu in the past that I actually had dreams about. All in all the food is truly hit or miss and generally overpriced. As for the beer: this is where Falling Sky gets a solid 2 and 1/2 stars for me. All the beer has the same aftertaste, despite a plethora of choices. Sometimes I go there and just wish I could get an Oakshire Watershed, which obviously blows any of their beers out of the water. I used to go there and sample various beers they had, considering carefully my choices. Now I just pick the first type of beer I feel like - light, IPA, dark - without trying anything, because honestly I think all the beers have a similar watered down taste. The wait staff is exceptionally friendly. Condiments are really really good, especially the mustard. Despite my it's okay rating, I keep...
Read moreI came to Falling Sky last week and had some of the best chicken soup I had in my life. The broth was dark brown and rich. It tasted amazing. All I thought about this week was going back to Falling Sky and having some more of the chicken soup.
I went there today, and as soon as the waiter brought the soup, I could tell it was different. The broth was a pale light brown. It tasted bland. I told the person at the counter that the soup didn't live up to last week's. I was told that everything is made in house, so it's going to taste differently each time.
It's not a good experience for customers to have inconsistent food and to be OK with that as a business. If the food tasted differently but still good, I'd have been happy with that. But this soup was not good. And Falling Sky doesn't have a problem with that?
I was offered a gift card, but I didn't want to take the chance of going back and having another bowl of flavorless chicken soup. I requested a different bowl of soup, which tasted the same - very bland. The person behind the counter did everything right from a customer service perspective. But the customer shouldn't have to roll the dice on their order just because it's made in house.
On the other hand, maybe they don't care about the soup? Then why serve something you're not going to take pride in? Again, not a good experience for customers. I won't...
Read moreThis review is for catering/bartending provided by Falling Sky for an 80 person wedding at Mount Pisgah Arboretum.
The crew that came out to help us with our day did SUCH an amazing job! They were timely, professional, and friendly. The food and beer was incredibly delicious and portions were generous. The food was a build-a-gyro buffet, which was a huge hit with all of our guests. They gave us 5 different menus to choose from, and seemed eager to cook us whatever we wanted, which was discussed over email and in person at the brewpub. Every little change we needed help with (had a large number of gluten-free guests, needed help with a coffee station and water station, etc.) was easily and cheerfully accommodated. Even with a small miscommunication of who was bringing dessert plates (which was an oversight on my part), they quickly remedied it by going to fetch more for us so could continue to enjoy the event. They stayed all day to cook the food fresh on site, and serve beer until the end of the night. We got to take home so much leftover food, and it fueled us as we recovered in the days following.
They really made the whole wedding a huge success for us, and I'm so pleased that we chose them for catering. Please consider them for your catering, because we...
