UNSAFE ENVIRONMENT!!! Bartender confiscated 1/3 of our parties legitimate California IDs. Wesley immediately approached the situation with aggression and made no effort to deescalate, nor did the other bartender alongside him. He must've been drinking on the job because he claimed to not see the holographic image on the "fake" ID that appeared on the others. As soon as our party compared theirs, they could very clearly see the holographic lines and only then was the bartender "open" to realizing his error (stormed out and continued to yell at us and begrudgingly return the ID).
He continued to be very AGGRESSIVE AND PHYSICAL with the people in our party. Out front of the establishment I had to use my arm to RESTRAIN him from initiating a physical altercation with my brother. We were right on the front step, but the bartender had his back to the building and apparently blocked the one angle of the very front of their establishment, so the owners are refusing to take action. This man has been confirmed to be VIOLENT on other occasions and is banned from local bars such as Max's.
Regardless of the ID situation, a bartender must be able to deescalate situations as they are knowingly walking into a job that will involve intoxicated people and disagreements. Insane lack of professionalism and was very scary. We are all lucky that this did not end worse. It speaks leaps and bounds that a woman holding him back was not enough for him to check himself and chill out. Shame on Rennie's for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāll start by saying this is the first review Iāve ever given. Iām extremely disappointed at how Rennieās handled their own mistake this past Saturday. Over a month ago I booked the whole upstairs for my boyfriendās 30th birthday party, this last Thursday I called to confirm. I was told I could come an hour early to set up so I arrived at 5:20p for a 6p party. When the manager saw me with my box of decorations, I let him know I was the one who had booked the upstairs- he looked at me dumbfounded and said ābut itās the spring game.ā I booked the reservation with him. He then proceeded to tell me that there was nothing he could do- including moving people out of a section of the upstairs to accommodate us even though it was his mistake he booked my party the same day as the spring game. All he offered was an apology- no possible solution or anything. I then had only 30 minutes to move and adjust the plans for the party Iāve been planning for months! There were numerous ways this could have been avoided and rectified, yet no appropriate steps were taken. They had my phone number, they could have alerted me on Thursday when I called to confirm, they could have accommodated day of, or they could have actually realized it was the spring game that Saturday when I booked- the one big event on campus in April. To say this was disappointing is an extreme understatement. I would never book an event here again; they are clearly unorganized...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe food is overpriced and not that great, service is consistently poor and slow, and on Sundays they won't serve lunch before 1 p.m.
I'm a grad student with an office nearby and I try about 1-3 times a year to like it here because it's the closest place with grilled cheese and beer, but it's consistently sucked the past five years.
I'm finally writing a review because the bartender took my boyfriend's drink order while we were sitting at the bar together whilst completely ignoring me, then promptly walked away to do something else. It was seven minutes before the woman writing the specials came and took our order.
If you can go somewhere else, do. I won't be coming back.
Edit: against my better knowledge I went back got breakfast - the mimosa tasted like plastic, service was awful, and the breakfast was laughable . They gave me an English muffin with nothing to put on it , not even butter. The only thing going for this place is that it's close to campus and isn't Taylors. Seriously, walk the extra block or two to go...
