May 31st 2025 well it didn't take long for them to slip back into their old ways. I think the lady recognized me when I came in and I was going to De disappointed she refused to look at me I originally went in and picked up an apple fritter and just looking at the case which was absolutely full of them I knew they were back to being what they were. A huge pizza dough with a sprinkling of cinnamon and sugar and an occasional smidgen of Apple I don't want to buy a biscuit a huge chunk of bread I want an apple fritter. I picked one up and then another and then another and each one was light as a feather. I put them down and I walked out and I sat in the car for a moment hesitating letting them know my disappointment. I did go back in I bought a coconut donut and there was another gentleman with the same sentiment as me filling up a box Anacortes no apple fritter the chef was almost empty of other Donuts but the fritters was full. I ordered a coffee and I tried to mention my disappointment to the lady who refused to even acknowledge I was are even look at me. Hopefully she too was disappointed just maybe someone was different cooking them and just maybe they'll go back to putting apples in the apple fritters and I can change my rating again. But for now I might as well go to Safeway I'm going to get the same old same old who knows maybe with a little encouragement Safeway might start actually making an apple fritter with apples in them
What happened today. I had the best apple fritter I think I've ever had. For years I complained about their apple fritters it seemed like they only put apple and sugar on the outside of the fritter. When I reached into the case and I felt the heaviness of the apple fritter I knew something had changed. That was melted sugar and apples throughout the apple fritter. The first one disappeared in a minute and unfortunately there was only one left and I got it. I'm going to be back and I'm going to really complain if it's not as good as it is today. I mentioned to them the difference in the amount of apples that was in the fritter and how much I appreciate it. Now I would rather pay twice as much for a good apple fritter then I would to buy one that just ain't got nothing in it. I have a problem with gluten and I paid for my Indulgence believe me today it...
Read moreI can't remember if I've reviewed the Donut Shoppe yet, so if this is a repeat, I apologize. I've been going to the Donut Shoppe (henceforth referred to as DS) since I got up here in 2016. I personally enjoy the Apple Fritters and the adaptations of the Old Fashioned doughnuts. Unlike Jason's, the DS makes smaller doughnuts in larger quantity and the quality is what you'd expect for a shoppe making doughnuts for AAFES and most of the gas stations in the area. They aren't always consistent in flavor and texture, but they ARE consistently good. They use mainly fruit fillings and custards; no Krispy Kreme styled vanilla cream, which is kind of a bummer. The doughnuts themselves are kinda like Dunkin in size and texture but are lighter and fluffier. The bread itself on most of the doughnuts has a generally sweet taste, yet isn't overbearing. The glazed ones with toppings (coconut, sprinkles, almonds etc.) Do a decent job of having a good ratio of topping to glaze (chocolate and maple are what I've seen) and are pleasant. Overall the food is good for the price point. I think the doughnuts range from $1.25 - $1.75 with the Pershings, Cinnamon Rolls and Fritters being around $2.00. It is worth noting that there is a $5 card minimum. In addition to the baked goods, they also have an espresso bar, small bags of chips, sodas and other "refrigerator" drinks including energy drinks. Lastly, the older lady who works there is pleasant enough if you catch her when she isn't reading or listening to music. The girl who works there on Saturdays...She's pleasant enough but I always get the feeling like I'm keeping her from doing something else she'd rather be doing. Overall, consistent, tasty and reliable are the adjectives I'd use to describe the DS. Definitely worth the time to go if you have a...
Read moreHere we go again. The coffee was bitter like they hadn't cleaned there. Equipment or they don't have a water filter period 2 sips and poured it out period what really irked me most. I go there for an apple fritter. Occasionally someone will make it right, but today was another day. A mediocre . I picked it up out of the case and it felt heavy. So I was optimistic that it actually had some apples in it. Boy was I wrong. Not a single piece of apple in the whole apple fritter. I ate a little of it trying to eat the outside where there was more sugar in coating. And I let the young lady know Why call it an ample fritter? If you're not going to put any apple in it period I'm just so frustrated. You can't find anyone, including Safeway, that actually puts apples in the apple fritters, on a regular basis. It's a little cinnamon and sugar coating with a little bit of apple syrup. And that's what you get charge me more. Charge me double, but make it...
