The water tastes like it's from a rusty catch bin in the back woods of the North Pole.
Have you ever gave in to your inner fat-boy and had a late night bowl of Captain Crunch? Where you pour way too much into your bowl, but have no regrets because the deliciousness triggers you to reminisce about your childhood days eating breakfast, watching cartoons, without a single worry in the world. After destroying your midnight snack, you proceed to put the bowl in the sink without washing it, because dishes are a tomorrow problem! The next day you wake up, regret being a procrastinator because now you're starting your day off with a chore. You look down, and the previously beautiful, crunchy, colorful circles of happiness have transformed into wet, soggy, discolored, disgusting little creatures. The milk now a blanket of regurgitated baby formula. That's what my onion soup and croutons looked like.
You ever forget about something you put in your freezer? Six months later you clean out your refrigerator and toss everything out? Or perhaps you donated it to a good cause because you don't want to be wasteful. Well if you had calamari and paid it forward to this establishment, it ended up on my plate. Thank you.
The veal parmigiana. Where do I start? The veal was not breaded, the veal was not fried. The veal was cooked poorly, it made me cry inside. It was smothered in red sauce, mediocre at best. The garlic bread was soaked in butter, leaving no room for crunch. It was probably cooked hours ago, intended for someone else's lunch.
I'm not a psychologist, but the waitress absolutely knew they food was bad. I'm like 73% accurate with emotional intelligence, and her energy absolutely conveyed "I know, I'm sorry. I'm just here to support myself and my kids. It's not my fault." I had a plate full of food, sitting back on a comfy chair from the 80's, face full of disappointment. 10 minutes into being served, she asks if she could take the plate. It was a relief to be one step closer to leaving the building.
The vegetables, specifically the zucchini, were the best part of the meal. Crunchy, cold, and seasoned to perfection! But for roughly thirty dollars an entree, I can safely say it wasn't a steal.
I walked home with a wave of sadness through my soul. As I enter my lonely home, I proceed to eat a cliff bar to stimulate my taste buds. I'm almost a year sober, but strongly considered cracking a cold one to cope with these feelings. But I'm better than that. I decided to express my emotions through this review instead. I'll go to sleep depressed tonight, but at least I'll be one step closer to my one-year coin. I hope you all get through whatever pain you're dealing with. Sweet...
Read moreLove Geraldo’s! When we first came to visit Alaska 10 years ago they were in this small tent looking thing from what I recall. Food was good though. We moved here 9 years ago and they really upgraded the place. I’ve been to the place many many times with family, friends, by myself. Definitely my #1 choice in town. Nice music, staff, lighting. Very peaceful even during busy times. My kids love it too and they are hard to please kind of people and very opinionated.
I am generally not into tomato sauce but their marinara is awesome and a little touch of fresh garlic in the middle is a great idea, then you can choose to add it or work around it. I think I’ve tried pretty close to everything on the menu. My favorite is beef ravioli. I ask for sauce on the side so that I can adjust the amount. So good! And they use olive oil everywhere and that is the best thing to put inside of your body if you didn’t know that. It’s not grease, it’s olive oil, it’s so good for you! My advice: eat half of the portion and save room for the dessert. They are super good, hard to pick one. Sometimes we take dessert to go if we are too stuffed.
We went to Geraldo’s last Saturday night. It was late in the evening, so past typical dinner time. It typical of me to go places late so I’ve been the last customer leaving plenty of times. The place was empty when we arrived. I thought they were closed. They were opened. The message from the governor went to everybody’s phones just a few days ago. I guess we were supposed to stay home this holiday season. Well, it could be a wise advice but let’s not let our local businesses go broke and shut down. Servers are wearing masks and so can you till it’s time to eat if that’s what you believe. They have good waitresses, we want to keep them in business. Thank you and happy...
Read moreWent here with the whole family. Our orders were as follows:
Garlic fries Salad bar Flat bread bruschetta
Chicken Parmesan Chicken Marsala Kids Lasagna Kids Fettuccine Alfredo
1 Sprite 1 Forget About it cocktail 1 kids hot cocoa Water was provided
Our appetizers were great! Everyone loved what they got. It was delicious and great value in my personal opinion. The timing of the dishes was off. We ordered the appetizers first and held our entree orders in the hope wed have some time between courses. Instead, they virtually came out together. No time to clear plates.
All the entrees aside from the Marsala came out together. The Chicken Parmesan suspiciously looked exactly like Chicken Marsala with red sauce poured over the Marsala sauce, down to the onions and mushrooms. It tasted this way as well, but I was reassured this was not the case. I remain skeptical. The Marsala was pretty good, and the kids loved their food.
My mixed drink was forgotten about until I brought it up, and when it came it could definitely put hair on your liver and make you forget about plenty.
My daughter's hot cocoa never came, but we were offered a dessert as recompense. The kids loved it!
Ultimately I think this place has a great environment, and pretty decent food. I think it suffers from under staffing. I saw one server running mad on the floor, another kind of shadowing (probably in training) and no one else staffing the place. For the number of tables this lady was waiting it's understandable for her to mix up and forget stuff. She was a rockstar for performing as well as she did.
I plan on giving this place another try on the future. I hope it does better then.
TLDR; Cool spot, meh food, friendly service but...
