Well that was one of the biggest food disappointments in my 43 years of life. After reading reviews and looking at photos I had great expectations for a Korean experience. Or at least as much as you could expect from Fairbanks. The beef bulgogi was more than half fat. The sauce was lack luster, we had to ask for more than one bowl of rice. The sides as good as they look was actually fake kimchi, vinegar and chilis on lettuce, cucumbers and cabbage had oil and water only. No fermentation at all. The ramen tasted like the $.50 rectangle ramen packets that you eat in college before you discover flavor.
From end to end this meal was nothing like I expected, I should have learned my lesson when I showed up last week two hours before closing and they said they were closed because they were out of rice.
Asking about the sides, I was told they don't make them because it's too expensive and too much work. You are charging $18 for a bowl of fifty cents ramen and an egg with a few slices of onion. $60 out the door.
Togo Korean, you come, you go, and you never return. The menu does not match what's online and the staff doesn't want to be there. Stay away and save your money. Better yet go to Safeway and buy packaged Korean food/sauces. You will enjoy it allot more for a fraction...
Read moreThis place is great. The decor is basic, but clean. One of the owners waits on the tables, and she's constantly moving, but she refills my water at least once every time. The food is what you come here for. The tofu stew is my wife's favorite, but I go for the kalbi (beef short ribs) and the kimbop (kind of like a Korean sushi roll). The kalbi isn't cheap, but you get enough meat for two people, and it is delicious. The kimbop is also a significant amount of food, and instead of a cheap protein like hot dog or egg, it has beef bulgogi in it. It's the best kimbop I've had. They are closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and they will sometimes be closed for other reasons,...
Read moreWe are visiting this area and have been here 4 times in 3 weeks. It is that good. The food is delicious and savory. The bulgogi is marinated well and cooked in the back. The sondubu (tofu stew) warms you to the core and tastes wonderful in every bite. We went there so many times the owner gave us complimentary fried dumplings. They were pretty tiny but tasteful nonetheless. The prices are average compared to other foods here in Fairbanks. You definitely get a bang for the buck though. The bulgogi is big enough for two depending on your appetite. It’s a mountain of beef. So if you’re visiting and in the mood for Korean food give Togo Korean...
