“Which BBQ sandwich is better the pulled pork or the brisket?” I ask the pitmaster and proprietor of this desert outpost. “I have awards for everything I have on the menu, so that’s really up to you.” He replies and that reply only makes my decision a bit harder. “I can make you one with half and half,” he says as he instantly makes the decision easy and earns himself a tip. Well, this man’s talk wasn’t simply braggadocio, he had solid BBQ, sides AND sauces. We call that the triple threat in BBQ land where so many soar in one category only to fail in another. I can vouch for the pulled pork / brisket half & half. I had regular sauce on the brisket and spicy on the pulled pork. The coleslaw and mac & cheese were solid choices and that slaw will mix well on the sandwich if you’re one who ventures to do such. I was offered a punch card, but I’m only in Fallon every few years so it would be a moot point. I’ll tell you this, next time I’m here I will drop by to grab some ribs. Probably try that...
Read moreSusie's BBQ is great food with friendly small town folks. I really enjoy the brisket sandwich with mac and cheese, however they have a bunch more on the menu. I live in Fernley which is the town 30 miles to the west and the drive to eat here is worth it. After speaking with one of the employees, I understand that there's different types of BBQ for different folks. Some like the meat with a dry rub and some like it slathered with BBQ sauce. I guess it just depends what part of the country you're from. Susie's uses dry rub, however if you like BBQ sauce like I do then they have a mild and a hot available, although it's called hot, it's not to me. It does have a very good flavor though. From talking with the staff I also discovered that they smoke turkeys for Thanksgiving! I'm gonna have to try one...
Read moreWe came here at 4 pm on a Sunday and it was just us in the restaurant. I ordered to go, we got the chicken/rib dinner combo with corn niblets and Mac and cheese and the rib dinner combo corn bread and potato salad and two extra sides of corn bread. We all loved the corn bread, it was sweet, buttery, and soft. I got honey to go with it but we didn’t need to add anything. I’m not a fan of potato salad but my husband is, he liked it. We did like the ribs, especially with the bbq sauce. Corn niblets were crunchy but not a ton of flavor, they have seasoning by the silverware, I should have added some. The Mac and cheese was a little mushy but had good flavor. The chicken, unfortunately, was really dry. I’d try the dark meat if we come again. Cute space with picnic tables,...
