Smashburger — Restaurant in Fargo

For a chain restaurant the burgers are fantastic! The multi-grain bun is delicious, the burgers are perfectly seasoned, and toppings fresh! We often choose this place when we're looking for a good burger.

The regular fries are just ok, though. Super thin, but not in a good way. The sweet potato fries are WAY better and what one should choose if looking for fries on the side. I personally get them as "Smash" style, which has a salt, rosemary, and olive oil seasoning. Very tasty!!

One more thing..the ketchup. YUCK! Disclaimer: I don't generally like ketchup, and only very occasionally eat it with regular French fries. The first time we tried the regular potato fried my husband made a comment about the ketchup tasting weird. I hate it when people don’t know how to review a restaurant. The complaints I read mostly were about the food being greasy, expensive or the joint being dirty. A smashburger has to be greasy, the grease is what holds it together, it’s the way it’s made and good food costs money, you want a cheap burger go to McDonald’s and honestly a combo meal there isn’t going to be much cheaper and the quality is far superior at smash! Secondly this is not a sit down restaurant with a server waiting on you, it is a half step up from fast food which is no slight. It’s a little more expensive than fast food but it’s also better quality than fast food so tables aren’t going to be as clean in a fast food joint especially post covid.

I went into Smashburger with fairly high expectations. I've always heard good things about them. While on a trip to Fargo we decided to finally give them a try. Honestly this was NEARLY the worst burger I've ever had. The grease level was off the charts. Minus the grease the brisket on the burger tasted sour. The restaurant was disgustingly dirty. The floors felt like they had a layer of fat on them that could carry a slide across the entire dining room. The tables were dirty as well. They hadn't been cleaned in what looked like over an hour based on the dried sauce on them. I made it thru half my food and tapped out. I love burgers but this thing was going to rocket thru my system in record time. Needless to say I won't be returning. Oh.... And finally $35 for a burger and a salad...
