Samurai | Japanese Cuisine — Restaurant in Fargo

Samurai is the best sushi place in Fargo/Moorhead currently, in terms of quality of the food and the decor and experience. It's not the least expensive, however. If you want cheap and good, go to Izumi, which is all you can eat. Samurai is more pricey but excellent.

They take thought in their placements and arrangements of your fish, artfully carving a radish into a rose, and shaping stacks of sashimi into flowers. Unlike some of the local sushi places, Samurai never skimps on the fish in their portioning. You get thick cuts of sashimi, and plenty of fish in the rolls too, which are larger than those offered at some other restaurants.

I have never had a bad time here, and the staff has always been incredibly friendly. In fact, I have never even had a single complaint about Samurai. I don't consider the price to be a negative even, because you get what you pay for.

I don't know how this place has a 4.4 Rating! The place was ok as far as interior. The waitress seemed disinterested in doing anything. The portions are small when it comes to sushi. The 8 roll is more like a 4 roll compared to a REAL AUTHENTIC place. The "SPECIALTY" sushi had nothing special to it except they throw avocado on top and leave the tails on the end and that's $5 more. I had to tell the waitress to take the plates because the tables were small and the plates were huge and she just kept bringing plates and not taking any back after we would pile them up for her. Overall, the service was crappy and the food was ehhh. NO KIDS MENUS!! BTW! To top it off I was so disappointed about the experience that I decided to still leave a $3 tip and she gave me a smirk and a *tsk in return. I decided to not even say anything after that so...

I’m not sure if we came here on a bad day or what, but it took 15 mins for us to get asked what we wanted to drink, another 15 mins to get my tea and the server didn’t even bring my boyfriend the water he asked for, it then took 30 mins to get the sushi and still no water, it then took another 20 mins to get my food and all I ordered was noodles, mind you I didn’t even get what I ordered, he said he rang it in wrong and hoped it was okay and walked away without confirming it was okay, still no water so we had to ask again for the 3rd time to get water, he finally brought it and we asked for to go boxes, sushi was great, noodles were alright even though it was not at all what I had ordered or wanted, but do not come here if your not wanting to spend 2 hours just trying to get the food you ordered, horrible horrible...
