When I moved from Florida to the area, the first thing I did was to find a authentic Japanese restaurant that I can go on a regular basis. I love Japanese food because I have lived in Japan for over 10 years. I have a Japanese college degree and I have worked in Tokyo for many years. I know my Japanese food, I can tell whether it’s a authentic one or not, sometimes just by look the dishes, of course by the taste as well. The owner has been operating the Akasaka restaurant for over 30 years. The husband is behind the counter making sashimi and sushis. From what I have eaten, I can tell that he is professionally trained, he has passion on what he does and he is proud of everything he presents to his customers. All raw stuff I have eaten here are all very fresh and the best I have eaten in the area. The chef is a honest individual, sometimes I ask for a type of fish, he tells me that the fish is not very fresh today, instead he recommends another fish. Most of the time, I just ask for a “omakase” sashimi and have a bottle of Japanese beer or some sake to go with it. End the meal, I sometimes order a few sushis I like or just have a bowl of rice and miso soup that the wife brings. She manages the front from taking orders to clean tables and cashier. Looks like sometimes she May needs some help but she told me that now days, it’s difficult to find the right people. I was very satisfied for every meal I had here and alway feel that I can’t wait to have another good meal here again when I leave. You won’t find sushi with a lot of mayonnaise on top here, but if you enjoy authentic Japanese food from sashimi, sushi to tempura and other traditional Japanese dishes, this is the perfect place for you.

Yum! I love this place. I ordered for take-out last night. The app said that it would be ready in 20 min. When I showed up, they were running a bit behind. There were 3 other people in line waiting for their order as well— All practicing social distancing. My order took an extra 15 min, but it’s understandable. There were 2 employees in the back running and hustling to finish all the online orders. A little patience and understanding is needed during this crisis. Anyways, the food is wonderful. I ordered the chirashi bowl, the toro (fatty tuna) nigiri, miso soup, and seaweed salad. The chirashi bowl had delicious, fresh fish. The toro was melt-in-your mouth good. The seaweed salad was well-seasoned with a bit of sesame oil added in as well. Good portion sizes, fresh fish, and well-seasoned throughout. I’m a fan of this place. Cheers to them for working their tushes off to feed us quarantined folks.

Word of mouth in Federal Way had this as one of the best Japanese restaurants in town. I have to say the food though pricey was quite good! We had the gyoza, ton katsu and beef yakisoba. All were very good. The accompanying sides of salad, rice and miso soup were also very good. I even liked their tea well enough that I didn't need additional sweetener. This is where the complimentary review ceases. The service was barely existent. What was really scary is that not a single staff member was wearing their mask over their noses. Not the bus woman, not the waitress and absolutely not the cook. We almost left. Did I share that was our first and now last time there. I'm really sorry about this. The food was good.

HEALTH INSPECTOR ASAP!!! Before you decide to eat at this restaurant, please consider reading this review because whoever is rating this place over 3 stars is lying to you, so let me be the one to be brutally honest…

I’d like to start this review by saying HOW is this place still open?! We came in on a Saturday night and the first red flag we should’ve noticed was how empty the restaurant was. We got greeted by a woman and she brought us to a table that clearly wasn’t cleaned. After we got seated, we waited over 30 minutes for her to come ask us for drinks. (Mind you, we are the only ones there now). After that, it took her 20 minutes to get our drinks and ask what we wanted to eat.

One of us ordered the hot pot, which came in a dirty pot with what tasted like 5 day old beef broth. The tongs they gave us to dip the FROZEN meat we were given had stuck black char built up on the ends of it. We asked for another pair of tongs and she brings back dirty tongs again?!? With the utensils barely being washed, I honestly can’t imagine how dirty the kitchen is.

As we were waiting for our order, (which took over 45 minutes) we heard what sounded like a microwave? Coming from the kitchen… “beep, beep, beep” and out came our miso soup… don’t want to assume of course, but just by the sound of a microwave coming from the kitchen was another immediate red flag.

My bulgogi Beef came in a puddle of water and oil in a bowl. I was pretty grossed out and only ate some pieces on top that weren’t wet. I’ve never had bulgogi beef served like this. After a couple pieces, I got nauseous and had to stop eating. The bulgogi meat alone was 35$. The portion was decent but the meal overall was disgusting, no one else wanted to share it with me.

We also ordered 3 different rolls of sushi from their menu, and let me just say, the taste reminded me of the sushi you would get at the gas station when you’re literally starving. The quality tasted old and seemed like it sat out for a couple hours (maybe even days ??) overall the sushi did not taste fresh whatsoever.

This place is overpriced and honestly a health hazard. I’m shocked none of us got sick from the food here. Looking at other reviews, some people actually did get sick from the food here. I have no idea how this place has 4 stars. One of the worst restaurant experiences I’ve ever had. Whoever is cooking in the back, gave up on serving good quality food a long time ago. Our waitress was very inattentive, (we were the only ones there!!). Only checked on us once and we sat there for over 2 hours from start to finish. (Due to her inattentiveness).

If I had to say one good thing about this place, it would be that our waitress was very nice. However, her being nice can’t make up for the low quality food and poor service we received.

If I had to summarize this place in 3 words: overpriced, dirty, and nauseating. To whoever is reading this, please think twice before walking...

I'm pretty upset that this was my go to place for sushi for the last year. I always order 2 California rolls and pay extra for them to add cream cheese. It always came out perfect and I loved it. A few weeks ago I got my order and notice a dramatically small amount of cream cheese had been added and in some pieces there was none. I was disappointed but gave them the benefit of the doubt. Today I ordered my usual and my husband brought it home for me. Couldn't believe we paid extra only to see they forgot the cream cheese completely. I called them up and talked to the woman at the front desk and when I told her of their mistake she looked up the order and laughed it off that she made a mistake and said "Sorry, next time I'll pay more attention". I said well we paid extra for something I did not receive, and her response was "well I see you used a coupon so you got a discount". What does a discount have to do with paying an extra dollar for something I did not receive? So I explained that even with a discount, had I not ordered the cream cheese it would of still been cheaper. I told her I would be taking my food back immediately so they can remake it. That's when her tone changed and she went from sweet to rude and told me "Don't complain, just bring it back then". I told her there was no need for her to be rude to me and she hung up. So I go there immediately and give her my food and she must of been shocked to see me because she all of a sudden became very apologetic and sweet. Kept blaming it on the small font that she couldn't read. All I said was that still doesn't make it ok that you made a mistake and tried convincing me to accept that I got ripped off because this time we used a coupon. She brought out the remade order to the car, I accepted it and before I could leave she tells me "Don't be mad anymore", so I told her I wouldn't be mad had she not spoken so rudely and handled it so poorly over the phone, I was calm and understand mistakes happen but that all changed when she tried to rip me off and became rude. I wasn't surprise when I got home and looked at the sushi that while yes they added the cream cheese they also gave me the biggest chunks of cucumber so I would barely get any crab mixture....should of known as shady as this place is that they would make me pay for their mistake in one way or another. This is the very last time I will come here, the food is good but that woman in the front is two faced and rude and they don't care if they made a mistake, they will try their hardest to get you to accept it and tell you next time they...
