Steel Lake Park — Attraction in Federal Way

This is one cool place to take the family for the day. There is the lake and all that comes with it. Fishing and swimming etc... and there is ample space to host a picnic with onsite grills and a huge covered area with multiple tables. You'll want to reserve the space or get to the park bright and early though because it gets taken quickly. Another amazing feature of this park is the family funland playground area. This giant play structure is located inside of a big circular sidewalk so while your kids are playing away, you can stroll around in circles and not only keep an eye on your kids but also get your daily exercise in. There is even a separate building that holds a concession stand so you can get some snacks and beverages while you play.

As you walk around that circular pathway I wrote about above, there are about six small learning areas. They are all hands on and interactive and teach you and your kids about how to read braille, the alphabet in sign language, some sounds that the local wildlife make and more. The structure itself is like a fairytale castle with some parts resembling a pirate ship or small boats. Imaginations can run wild with this setting or the kids can enjoy the swing set or the new fangled merry-go-round.

This place is just all around a great way to stay entertained on a warm sunny day. Be prepared because your kids will not want to leave when it's time to go home.

STEEL LAKE IS CLOSED! THE WATER HAD A RAW SEWAGE LEAK AND THE WATER IS NOT SAFE TO EVEN PUT FEET IN! FISHING I WOULD ASSUME IS NO GOOD, BUT I WOULD ASK THE CITY PARK PEOPLE! (excuse my lack of correct titles, just having a blonde/green moment if you will, my great apologies I was not trying too offend)

People should not swim or wade at this beach, drink lake water, or engage in other water-contact activities until the closure is lifted. Note that this site is not actively monitored for bacteria. I DO love steel lake!!!! AND THE PARK AND PLAYGROUND, BASKETBALL AND VOLLEYBALL AREAS ARE STILL OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! Great place to take small children year round!! Huge play ground! Steel Lake is a pretty fun place to visit. We went about 2 or 3 weeks ago and again this morning. The first time we went it was crazy crowded, but it was also the first hot day of the year and on a Sunday so that was no surprise. There was still plenty of parking (parking lots are huge) and plenty of picnic tables around with huge open areas to play in (I think there might be a field either there or nearby cause I saw a lot of players but I didn't actually see any fields, but I also wasn't looking for it either) This morning we went around 8am on a Wednesday and there was maybe three other cars there. Looks like they have fishing out on the dock. They also have a boat launch that's part of the smaller parking lot. The second we rolled in, while the cat was still moving, squirrels and crows and ducks all scurried over to us. Although VERY tempting, please don't feed wildlife, cause more damage to everything (mostly the wildlife). Super fun...
