A NW winter day. Missing home. I needed menudo. Googled taquerias near me and LA Tentacion was number two on the list. Number one was about a half mile behind me, chance brought me here.
Place is tucked in off the street next to a Korean noodle house. Pacific is a busy street and lots of visual distractions, you'll miss it even with directions. Inside will remind you of a neighborhood store anywhere in Southern California. Smelled like home.
Ordered menudo, the Taco Tentacion, and a Negra Modelo. Sunday morning clothes for the families, futbol on TV. Sounded like home.
Menudo was delicious and just as I had expected.
The taco was wholly other. Served on a plate, two small house-made corn tortillas; slightly spread, piled generously with braised, then grilled pieces of Carnitas. A portion of Pico de Gallo. The guacamole was a stellar start, with its fresh, creamy texture and a hint of lime and jalapeño. The homemade tortilla chips were irresistible.

As a dessert enthusiast, I savored the crispy churros with vanilla helado

Read moreThis is the best Authentic Mexican I have ever had in America. Wonderful homemade torillas, delictable meats, and fresh ingredients all packed together for an astounding experience for anyone who loves this type of cuisine. The ladies are extremely sweet and speak very good english (something I was not expecting before I walked in). The location is a little out of place, as it looks like the back end of a store where employees park. The establishment is very clean, and for a germaphob like me that means a lot. The menu is short and sweet, because everything on it seemed to be perfected. Almost all the customers are mexican, which says a lot about how authentic it is. I would HIGHLY reccomend this to anyone. Also, my favorite drink here was the Orange...
