Melody Boba House – Bubble Tea • Shaved Ice • Bubble Waffles — Restaurant in Federal Way

After reading all the previous reviews about the management at Melody Boba House I can say that is all very true. The employees at this location did not receive any tips despite having a tip option on the pos system for card, and a tip jar. They also never received rest breaks or meal breaks, and would get to eat or go on their phones if the store wasn't busy, but even then they never ate uninterrupted. This is against WA state laws but the owner never seemed to care. Besides the horrible working conditions there were numerous health code violations. The owner would store syrup used in drinks under counters that were unclean, had mold and rust. The sink for rinsing off dirty mops was right next to open bags of sugar used in the bubble waffles. Despite the lack of cleanliness the owner would not schedule employees to go in an hour early or stay an hour later to keep on top of cleaning even during covid, this caused employees to have to clean while customers were in shop leaving them limited only to light cleaning. It just seems like the owner doesn't care about her employees as they would have to rush to open right when the store opens at 12pm and rush to close as well (the owner would reprimand the employees if they stayed 30 mins past closing). All this also makes it seem like the owner just doesn't care about the health of her customers either as the store was constantly filthy. On top of all this the owner has employed her boyfriend of 30 years old to work at her Federal Way location, her boyfriend who is almost 2x the age of many of the employees here has made many previous female employees uncomfortable. He was caught staring at underage girls in inappropriate places and asked inappropriate questions to the female employees as well. My friends and I were in the neighborhood and we wanted to have some bubble tea and bubble waffles so we stopped by in the early evening. Not too busy but few people in front of us. First of all, you could only order from the kiosk machine and had to wait in line for it, so we did. My go to bubble tea drink is Jasmine Milk Tea with boba, less ice and about 30% sugar. There was only 25% sugar choice so I picked that. I also ordered regular bubble waffle without any topping and was very excited for it. My friends also ordered other drinks and bubble waffles as well. We didn't have to wait too long for them, about 10-15 min or so. One sip into my drink and I knew I couldn't drink a few more sips. I could barely taste the Jasmine tea, and the boba was insanely soft and overcooked, I would have guessed that they have been left out for a while, while there was barely any ice (so much for 'less ice'). It was mediocre at best. Now I thought I couldn't get worse? Think again. The bubble waffle was COLD, and HALF AIR. I could bite into it and felt half empty, with the dough cold and barely chewy. I have never felt so ripped off in my life.

My friends ' bubble waffles and drinks suffered the same fate. I couldn't fathom how a business could survive with this quality. Needless to say, I highly recommend management take note to put effort into the quality of the drinks and food. But you definitely have lost 4...

This is a gem for desert

I like boba tea from Regent Bakery (Bellevue) but never those from ShareTea, Happy Lemon, or any of the MANY shops in Seattle that I have tried. However I was pleasantlysurprised to found Melody Boba tea I ordered taste just like that from Regent. The rest of the family ordered one Shaved Ice. The price is$12 so I was highly suspecious for making the order. However, when the order came- and it took quite a while, after I already finished all my boba and more, but it was totally worth the wait- my whole family have raved praises for the Shaved Ice, and it's unlike any othe r all of us have ever had which is just regular ice in crashed form, topped with colored, unhealthy, unappealing, sweetened, flavored juice. This one has cheesecake chunks, scoop of (quality) ice team, mango chunks (not fresh, just canned). And the best part is the ice is unlike ice: it completely has no moisture, and looks like ice power that, upon squeeze, still won't hold together. And it tastes very good.

Our only"complaint" was that the Shaved Ice order was too big for the four of us- would have been nice to have smaller (less...
