To be honest, the food is great. Southern breakfast staples done well. However, it's not worth going to get the great food because the service is so awful. I went with my family on a Sunday. The wait wasn't to bad. We were seated, handed menus and abandoned for a while. No one came to get our order for a while. But the food is good so we waited. Our order was finally taken and we ordered 4 cinnamon rolls with our breakfasts. The server brings out 3 and leaves the table. I wait for a few minutes before realizing they aren't bringing a 4th cinnamon roll. Several servers pass us as we try to get their attention, but never acknowledged that we were even speaking. As the rest of the food arrives I mention the forgotten cinnamon roll. The server says she didn't realize we ordered 4 and that she'll get me one. With my food in front of me I decide to not get the cinnamon roll. She rolls her eyes and walks off, while I'm mid sentence saying to not worry about the roll. We realize upon trying to eat that we haven't got any utensils to eat with. Again we attempt to get the attention of anyone who works there finally getting the bus boy to see us. We ask for utensils and he hands us one set for 4 of us and quickly leaves for the kitchen. We attempt a third time to get anyone's attention. After several minutes we get a server to see us. She tosses 3 more sets of utensils on the table and walks away. After that no one checked on us until they wanted us to pay the check. The servers are rude. They do not pay attention to the customers. They all have an attitude about having to serve anyone. I don't understand why it's so hard to be even a little nice when working in a service position. I will not go back willingly. Not because the food is bad, but because the service is the worst I have seen in a...
Read moreAs a local, I enjoy Ms. Carolyn's breakfast. This spot only serves breakfast and lunch, so make sure you check the times before swinging by. At Ms. Carolyn’s you can get a traditional breakfast of bacon, eggs and toast, or more funky options like "The Hippie" with scrambled eggs over skillet potatoes topped with Hollandaise sauce or a loaded breakfast bowl. It’s a local favorite so expect wait times-- especially during peak hours. It’s a diner-style restaurant in an older strip mall locale and definitely not fancy or pretentious. While the food is solid overall, I do not feel the diner-style food is good enough to endure a long wait, unless you are completely jones-ing for something you can really only get there like Crab Benedict (lump crab meat over poached eggs.) If you are visiting the area and want to try a southern specialty while in town, give the Shrimp and Grits a go. If you are visiting Amelia Island for a birthday or anniversary, Ms. Carolyn’s does make some excellent cakes as well, but call ahead. Overall, worth the visit, but not during peak times where similar breakfast options...
Read moreThis restaurant was been staple of the Fernandina area for decades and I have never been disappointed, until today. We went for breakfast and sat at the bar since all the tables were full.. The stools were very heavy, making it difficult to maneuver them. There was no place to rest our feet so they just dangled the entire time. The restaurant itself was clean and well lit. Plenty of parking and there was no wait time when we arrived. Staff was friendly and prompt. I ordered "The Lumberjack" which consisted of 2 eggs, to order, choice of potatoes or grits, a large breakfast sausage and a bread. My hubby ordered a Western Omelette with grits and english muffin. Our wait for our food was reasonable. My husband received potatoes instead of his grits which the staff promptly corrected. My eggs were ordered over-medium but were undercooked. My potatoes were cold, yuck. I love this restaurant and will definitely return since I hope they were just...
