We have been eating there for 2 years and the food is good but really not any better than the other couple of thai restaurants in university place. Then 6 months ago or so they raised there prices 15% but on the menu they wrote that they raised the prices to cover the tip so no tip was required. They had it posted on the top of each page of the menu saying "prices raised to cover tip and no tip required ". I was more than okay with that because I believe you should tip atleast 15% of the bill. So we continued eating there. Then they took that off the menu saying no tip required and when I give them my debit card to cash out when they brought me my bill for 2 people for lunch was 43$ and on the receipt there was a place for you to put a tip like it was before they raised the prices. So now they expect you to tip and I didn't want to but my wife said too. So 51$ for 2 people's lunch. I will return one more time by myself without my wife to write this on my receipt and not leave a tip. After that visit I will not return until I see a post saying they dropped their prices or that they went back to no tip required. There are a few different thai restaurants close and I recommend you goggle them unless you feel like paying for a 4 star restaurant that is basically a step...
Read moreUpdate: So much better! Thanks! We wanted to give this another go, and I'm so glad we did! Everything was very good. Thanks for listening and adjusting the spicing. Way too hot, way too sweet. New owners. I ordered the same items I've been getting for 15+ years, but I couldn't eat them, the food was much hotter than 3 stars, and the meats were unpleasantly (disgustingly, to me) sweet. After the waitress brought the food she didn't return to our table at all until she brought the check. When I told her the problem she just acted like she hadn't heard me. Didn't offer to replace them, didn't express concern, didn't seem to care at all. I asked if the meat can be made less sweet in the future, but she said it's marinated ahead of time. Sadly, after so many years of this being in my top 3 restaurants in the area, I won't be back.
I had the Thai fried rice with pork, and the Thai beef noodle soup, both 3 stars. My companion had the green curry pork, 5 stars. All were much hotter and much sweeter than usual. He finished the curry, I couldn't eat my dishes. He got my rice to go, but left my soup. Our server was very nice, but didn't seem equipped to handle...
Read moreRoyal Thai Bistro, in my opinion, used to have the absolute BEST fresh spring rolls in Tacoma! There was a time when all I would order was their spring rolls, for meals, sometimes more than once a day. I don't know what the deal is, but they have gone way down hill as of late. The spring rolls the last few times have been ridiculously large and wrapped very loosely. Its as if they're trying to make the seem "bigger and better" by increasing their size, but they are just over-filled with too much lettuce and cilantro. The tofu used to be AMAZING, seasoned deliciously, plump and generously filled. Now, they are soggy and plain, surrounded by lettuce. . . More often then not, the rice wrap doesn't even stay in tact and they become a mess with liquid oozing all over, lettuce and cilantro falling out with every attempt at a bite. Peanut sauce is usually on point while the spring rolls continue to get worse. My only hope for this review is for Royal Thai Bistro to hold a higher standard when it comes to something as important as spring rolls! LOL, but...
