Hop Bo — Restaurant in Florida

I'm not normally a review poster especially negative reviews. However, this was my normal go to place. I usually order through Grub Hub (which I have giving high reviews to HopBo) to pick up or to be delivered to my house.

I won't be going back ever again. Their food is alright, nothing to write home about but it was good enough most of the time and the location was convenient for us.

Tonight, I ordered our normal items totaling about $50-60 bucks. They cancelled the order like 20-30 mins after ordering. Okay no big deal so I look and the reason is “menu items.” I’m thinking okay, maybe they are out of something I ordered so I decided to call and check so I could reorder without said item(s) they were out of. She then cuts me off after hearing that I ordered on grub hub and basically said yes she canceled the order and then hung up on me. Me like to give people the benefit of the doubt thought maybe she misunderstood what I was trying to ask so I called back again and was again cut off and told she's too busy too busy and then hung up again.

Tldr: ordered on a delivery app, canceled order and reason provided was “menu items” call to see which items were not in available so we could re order. Was very rude on the phone & hung up on us 2x saying they were to busy to...

I ordered an egg roll, a large shrimp chop suey, and a large garlic chicken.

The shrimp chop suey was good, but it was slightly greasy.

The garlic chicken was decent, but it was also slightly greasy, and the chicken pieces they use are so fatty. It seems like they use alot of chicken skin mixed with some meat. Some of the chicken pieces were all fat and I couldn't even eat some of them. If they used better quality chicken then the garlic chicken would've been good. Perhaps the chicken was just very tender, but it was a weird texture and still very fatty.

They did give good portion sizes with both dishes, though, and the the price wasn't as much compared to most other local Chinese restaurants.

The egg roll was too fried and very greasy, and there wasn't much stuffing in it. Of course an egg roll is usually going to be greasy, but still.

All in all it wasn't that bad, and I would consider getting them again, but the greasiness was a turn off as well as the chicken pieces.

I would recommend the shrimp chop suey or any shrimp dish but not any chicken dishes.

I can't speak about the quality of the beef or any of the other dishes, but being how greasy my traditionally non-greasy meals were, I would probably steer clear of actual fried dishes in case it would...

If you want to enjoy an all around amazing chinese food spot, this may not be the place, however THEY MAKE THE BEST PORK FRIED RICE IN FLORIDA. YES I said all of Florida! Not just brevard. This fried rice makes me want to give this chinese food establishment 1000 stars but I have had a few dishes here that did not taste right. In fact the general tso and wonton dishes were quite sub par but the rice is so freaking amazing you will return back over and over for more of this delicious an perfectly cooked fried rice. Of course it's a perfectly golden yellow rice from the seasonings rhat colors it to the perfectly. I will be back and you should try the rice. I think if a place makes something uniquely superior they should be given at least a 4 star so I'm giving this hop bo a 4 star, but only get the rice. Unless they improve I'd say steer clear from any meat...
