I'm a bit perplexed at how this has so many 5-star reviews. The food here is the major flaw with this restaurant, otherwise the staff was incredibly friendly and the place was very clean. In regards to the food: it's an all-you-can eat restaurant (there's not much to expect in terms of high quality). This is not a buffet style all-you-can eat, it's all table service.
The Sushi (rolls) There's not a whole lot of options when ordering on the buffet style menu. Most of the rolls have cream cheese in them (8/13 rolls) and, that being said, you cannot alter most of the rolls. I would assume this may have something to do with the rolls being premade as with made-to-order sushi this is usually not a problem. Most rolls have fried items in it and generally seem to be the same ingredients put together in different ways.
The Sushi (fish over rice) There's only 3 types of fish to choose from. And it came out right after I ordered it, which is a bit of a red flag. As for the rice, its very dense. I don't even know how else to explain it. I found each piece of sushi was burdened by the rice. And the portions of fish were actually reasonable over the rice, but the rice was just dense. The only good sushi I had from the selection of only 3 types was the salmon, and even that has an odd flavor to it.
The Sashimi (fish with no rice) The fish is obviously frozen. If I could recommend one thing, it would be to only order the salmon sashimi. The salmon was the only tender piece of fish on the buffet menu. The tuna was al dente and oozed a pink tinged water from it, usually a sign of lower quality product preserved with carbon monoxide, but can't say for sure. I didn't bother trying the other types they had on there.
There was more options on the menu as far as some appetizers and dessert that I didn't bother with. The other issue, while not posted anywhere in the restaurant, is that I was one person and charged an 18% service fee. My server made me aware when presenting the check; it caught me off guard. The only thing that is written anywhere is a 20% service fee for parties of 6 or more. So be aware of that.
Overall the food was not very good. Not worth the $40 price tag. Perhaps this may differ from their a la carte menu, but I wouldn't know. Not...
Read moreWe stopped into this place because of the good reviews to try it out and to be honest, I have never felt so scammed by reviews before. First of all, they crammed as many tables as they could into the place that we were back to back with other diners. We both tried the all you can eat which was pretty terrible. The rice was dry and kinda crunchy, and the fish just had a very weird taste. We got it very quickly, which makes me feel like it was already prepared for a while before ordering.
I usually go for salmon and spicy tuna rolls in sushi places. The spicy tuna was just a normal tuna roll with spicy mayo on top and the salmon just tasted very odd. I tried a few other things, like the Gunga which was basically just a fried ball of cream cheese with no other taste than that, and I tried a couple of their temaki as well. Seeing if maybe my salmon roll was a just a bad fluke, I tried a salmon temaki and it honestly made me feel nauseous.
The service was pretty subpar. Another table let their little kid run around and touch all the soy sauce plates and such at the other table, when we saw another server try to take them to another table, we tried to warn our server, which she went to talk to the other server that took them and they just kind of laughed and he never took the dishes back from the other table.
I never write reviews for restaurants because I usually don't care enough to, but I had to tell everyone how absolutely bad this place is, don't trust the other reviews. The food is not good whatsoever. Our bill for 2 people, and this was with 2 all you can eat, one beer and one soda was over 100 after tip. We can go elsewhere and have much better quality food at Sushi Yama around the corner for less or equal to that. And all that without feeling queasy for the rest of...
Read moreWe arrived a few minutes late and had an extra person different from our reservation. Roberto was extremely warm and welcoming upon our entrance. We were seated immediately. Raphaela was our server. The entire concept was new for all 3 of us. She warmly explained how the all you can eat deal works. Plus, showed that you could choose to eat a la carte on the backside of the menu. Raphaela also made recommendations for what options are most popular. They were delicious and fresh as was everything we ate. Another thing that I really enjoyed was how the food we each chose was placed in the center of the table, while we had our own individual plates directly in front of us. This enabled us to share each other's food selections. I had many items earlier today that I have never tried before. There are appetizers and desserts available and included in the all you can eat offerings. We noticed that the menu showed the lunch price at $34.90. online it showed $29.90. Raphaela quickly showed me on her device that we were being charged the lower price special. I'm on vacation for the first time here in Boca Raton. I'm hoping something like this opens in NJ near me. Will definitely do my best to return here next time I am around. My only suggestion, try to check out the food options before going to the restaurant. The options were many and initially seemed overwhelming for each of us. I also liked how on top of things Raphaela was. Not too in your face. Just perfect. She picked up our empty plates as soon as she saw us finished and checked in often to see if we wanted to order more. Wonderful...
