Grilled Cheese was FABULOUS & I will return for it. My Mel's Diner Experience: The Novel I sent my hubby to pick up our order because I was feeling under the weather, he ordered a pot roast diner with a chicken noodle soup side and I ordered the grilled cheese with chicken noodle soup. When he was given the order it didn't "feel" right so he checked it when he got to the car, it was a club sandwich and fries...wrong. Went back inside, explained the order was wrong and repeated our order with me on the phone, I think he was calm compared to...well me haha but again I wasn't feeling well and STARVING. SO cut to NOOW we have the right order, checked in the car again, everything looked good and he headed my way so we could feast. I saw the grilled cheese and my eyes started drooling. I picked up the soup bowl and...I knew then...it was wrong. Opened...and there is was, some cream based chowder NOT CHICKEN NOODLE bs. I was LIVID. I immediately got in the car (hubby was really enjoying the pot roast so I couldn't ask him to go, 5 stars) . When I arrived I explained the situation, the manager said "we're not serving chicken noodle soup today so I don't know how you were able to order it". I responded "I ordered it from your website, it's listed on my receipt and order ticket..?". Manager suggested I keep the soup, receive a refund, or get a salad. Since I had two soups I asked for one refund and one salad. Refund processed, salad received, and I left. Stopped at good'oId Publix and splurged on a pint of chicken noodle soup from the deli and went on with my life... I can't explain exactly how it came about but I just didn't enjoy the feeling the manager gave me that it was my fault because I shouldn't of ordered what was available for me to order. If your not serving something, update your menu online, if your not serving something, calls take out order customers prior to pick up and suggest alternatives. 3 stars for a 5 star FOOD review, negative 2 stars for staff mood. We are all going through it right now, I'm in two types of customer service industries and I manage to slap a smile on my face and except all responsibility for anything wrong even if it doesn't make sense to me. Please try to enjoy what you do, it will...
Read moreIt appears this restaurant has lost its vision. Today we were fed uncooked food, and food that was premade and reheated, cold in the middle. We’re very sure this food has reached its expiry, as my husband is now belching and has a stomach ache. He’s obviously got food poisining. He ordered the bbq platter. Asked for the half ribs and meatloaf. As he bit into the meatloaf it was cold, he spat it into his napkin and asked it to be cooked, he explained to Violet, our server. He then started eating the ribs, which now he regrets as they were warm on the outside but cold inside. Shortly after this Violet brought back the meatloaf. He thought everything looked ok, but as he started eating it he said something was quite slimy and odd about the taste. Where we were sitting close to the kitchen the lighting was very dim, so he continued to eat a few more bites but then he said his stomach was starting to react, so he examined the meatloaf with his phone flashlight, and was upset to find it pink, uncooked. Obviously he didn’t eat anymore, and 90 percent wasnt touched. Violet wanted to rectify by offering him a piece of pie, my husband declined as he was experiencing the start of a stomach ache. Violet proceeded with her bill, and charged us full price for this event. I explained at the register it’s not acceptable to be serving raw hamburger, and asked why we’re being charged for the meatloaf that was not edible. They didn’t care or budge on wanting paid in full, even though services and product wasnt rendered. It seems from our latest experience, Mel’s seems more concerned about getting your money, than they do about the public’s safety. We’ve been to Mel’s so many times, years ago it was great. We’ve definitely had some questionable food here recently. This time was kinda the icing on the cake for us. We paid 36 dollars for my husband to know be sick, and Mel’s doesn’t care. I hope this restaurant gets checked over by a food and health inspector. We won’t ever be risking eating here ever again. To us it’s unsafe...
Read moreMy kids and I waited at our table without water or even a bit of attention from our server for 45 minutes. We finally received water after walking around looking for someone to talk to about it. Very patiently an 8 year old 6 year old abd 15 month old waited for simply water. Finally our server realized she had forgotten us 20 more minutes later and took our order. I was told I could only sub a potato item for a potato item ... All I wanted was cottage cheese instead of hash. Simple. We got simple orders ... 5 families have moved through , been seated, gotten food, and left... Still no food. I got an omelet and the kids got chicken, which they couldnt eat (and my kids are not picky at all) food comes and I have never had a worse omelet. I have, only ever complained once at a restaurant kindly because I found larva in my food. Seriously. The omelet was flat with everything whisked in, burned on the bottom, the bacon was nearly raw, the avocado was cooked into it in chunks that you can tell were under ripe until they heated it, the shrimp was mushy and to fix it they added cheese I think because globs of goo were present (which could have been raw egg as well who knows) on top even though the bottom was burned. We didnt get water refills or offers for a refill at all. I will never come back or refer others. Bad service... Oh yes forgot to mention... When she did bring water she threw the straws at us from feet away!. Um weird and rude. I watched servers whisper about customers in a mocking tone, sit around, and struggle while I waited for 1 hour and 45 minutes to even be asked what I...
