Let me start by explaining one thing; when it comes time to eat at new places I am the first one to say yes but when it comes to new restaurants that claim Mexican cuisine it is a different story. I am by far more special when it comes to creating an expectation of what Mexican cuisine ahould be like. Perhaps that is because I give myself too much credit, but after all I have good 28 years enjoying authentic mexican cuisine from different regions in Mexico. So there you go, that is my explanation. Let's say this place is a gem located in the heart of Fort Bragg in California. So if you are in this town you have to stop by. I ordered a bowl with cochinita pibil that came with hot crunchy home made tortilla chips while my husband got a cochinita pibil torta that came with homemade thin spicy potatoe chips. My bowl was ... what is the best word to describe it? Delicious. Pucture this: large bowl filled with a layer of soft black beans, followed by white fluffy rice, covered with a sweet tomatoe sauce accompanied by a yummy layer of creamy guacamole, add grated white cheese and a simple yet tasty portion of cochinita pibil topped with red onions. Those chips are the perfect spoon for all those flavours.!! Torta was not a dish I tried but my husband left the plate empty. So I am guessing they were as good as mine.

I must confess I had tried many times before cochinita pibil, which is a marinated shredded pork mouthwatering piece of mexican cuisine, but even when this place seemed to have its roots from Yucatan, Mexico where this dish comes from I will say I had had better cochinita. Yet this place was an 8 out of 10 for that part of the dish. As a whole I will give them a 9. After getting a bowl, a torta, a beer and a lemonade was paid about $45, tip not included. Leaving you with some pictures for your reference. Great job to the singing chef at the kitchen of the...

Unarguably the best Mexican restaurant in Fort Bragg. It’s got it all: enticing sounding menu, great atmosphere, authentic music and finger-lickin’ good food from around the globe. Not to mention tapas and sangria! Speaking of perfectly-sized, delicious tapas, we had the Papatzul - an expertly prepared, authentic, heavenly Mayan specialty and the calamari rings. Next, the Cochinita Pibil plate - for me, the star of the plate were the beans: The. Smoothest. And most flavorful. Ever. And I’m normally not a bean-believer. So, yes, this food will make a believer out of anyone. On a second visit I had the Braised Pork Osso Bucco - an insanely generous portion of slowly braised, melt-in-your-mouth pork with mashed potatoes, light gravy and veg ragout - an overload of flavor and umami. My opinion: this should be shared, like all delicious food prepared by expert chefs. The hubs tried the Red Seal Ale, Fish and Chips and Salmon Tacos. He seemed particularly transfixed by the salmon tacos but everything coming out of the kitchen was cooked on point. My only regret and plan for the future: visit again on a weekday when it’s less busy and try several or ALL tapas.

From most recommended to still super yummy: Cochinita pibil, Salmon tacos, Papatzul, Braised pork osso bucco (Mayan spices), Fish and Chips,...

Went here based on reviews and we're extremely dissapointed. While the service was great, the food was not. Mom ordered a prawn stuffed chili rellno that was not more than just "ok". I ordered fish that came to the table very underdone. When I sent it back the cook tried to insist it was supposed to be that way. My daughter ordered short ribs but what she got was a plate of underseasoned mashed potatoes and blobs of fat. She sent it back and we could hear the cook arguing with our server that it was supposed to be like that too. My mother had all but finished her meal by the time mine came back out and my daughter's came out about the time I was finished. My veg was very good as was the shrimp ceviche garnish on my fish. If I had to eat here again, it's the only thing I would order. Spent $90 on this meal with no drinks and tip. Overall, underseasoned, & not the quality expected for the price. One eh meal, you figure you just ordered wrong, but 3, speaks to the overall character...

Cute interior but it was cold and the heater they turned on was just getting warm by the time we were done. We shared a plate of nachos which were ok but nothing spectacular with the pibil lacking flavor. Almost all the chips were under the black beans and other toppings so quite soggy, even more so since it was served in a pasta bowl instead of a plate. They did bring more chips upon request but charged $2 for salsa which wasn't much more than finely chopped tomatoes. We ordered top shelf margaritas which arrived missing ingredients (cointreau). Waitress said it didn't call for it so I asked for the menu and showed her what we ordered and she showed us her instructions which said same as house Margie but upgrade tequila. Lol. She was nice about it and corrected them but she clearly was not trained in bartending. We enjoyed ourselves but had a better experience on previous visit. Menu items a bit overpriced but it's normal for a tourist coast restaurant.

We were very pleased with our meal and service at Mayan Fusion. When we first got here, it seemed a little chaotic as they were short staffed. However, they are well organized and got us seated with minimal wait. Wait staff was ask very friendly and attentive and had great recommendations. We started with the crab cakes and wow, I would highly recommend getting these. Great flavor, great sauce, and the salad/slaw that was included was amazing. Drinks were very tasty, we all got margaritas. I was hoping for a slightly larger one, but it was well made and I just nursed it. Dinner was fantastic. I got the Pork Chuc and out was amazing. Pork was thin sliced, perfectly grilled and seasoned, and the sauce was excellent and had good heat. The tortillas are all hand made and super good. The other adults in our party got fish tacos and the Cochinita Pibil. Both were excellent. If you are in Fort Bragg, I highly recommending stopping by Mayan Fusion.

It appears to be a family ran restaurant, which shows in their service. They seem to take a lot of pride in what they do, which is evident in the plating of their dishes. To eliminate any confusion about their name regarding the fusion aspect of their food, It's not a blending of influences and ingredients on a particular dish, but it's more about different dishes on a common menu. For instance, there's a Italian styled fried zucchini, fish and chips, Mayan choices like tacos and enchiladas, as well as some French inspired dishes. In their situation, the Mayan dishes are similar to some Mexican food styles, but the flavors are more muted. They don't seem to be cumin centric as much as Mexican dishes are, but they are very good none the less. Their chocolate ice cream has cinnamon as well as cyan pepper with intense chocolate flavor making it a nice finish to a good meal.
