Had reservations for a party of 8 adults and two children for early dinner at 3:00 prior to heading to the Lincoln center to attend a recital. Our table was waiting when we arrived. We were attended by three staffers - impressive. They know how to handle a large party. Our primary server was outstanding - pleasant, friendly, attentive and very patient. We split the tab among three checks and she was perfectly okay with that. Now on to the food and the pricing. My wife's small size chicken caesar salad was good. Chilled, crispy and the chicken well cooked and moist. But it came with no bread and when my wife asked for a piece of bread she was told that she would have to order a side of garlic bread at a cost. So for the base price of $6.75 plus a $4.75 add on for the chicken, a slice of garlic bread should not have been an unreasonable expectation. My Spaghetti and meatballs ($14.75) was a good portion of pasta with three meatballs. The meatballs were "traditional" Italian - golf ball size, with a blend of meats. Perfectly spiced. The sauce (Italians call it gravy - so does Nick's) was overly spicy and too salty. To me it seemed as though the sauce had over-reduced maybe, which would explain the high level of salt and condensed heat. Also, not nearly enough sauce. The pasta soaked it up and was on the dry side. Others in the party had Chicken Alfredo, a burger, lasagna, Chicken Parm and a slice of pizza. All were satisfied with their food. So the wait staff earns a solid 5 but eating at a restaurant is not only about service but certainly the quality and pricing and completeness of the food items. Thus the 3 star rating.

We picked up a couple of sandwiches on Tuesday, October 17th. We were taking them up to Rocky Mt. National Park for a picnic. One of us ordered an Italian which had too much mayo. The other ordered a Turkey Club. The picture of the Club shows nice slices of Turkey. We picked up the sandwiches and headed to the Park. When I opened my Turkey sandwich there were no slices of Turkey. The entire meat portion was more like granulated Turkey. It’s like the bits of Turkey that remain at the bottom of the slicing machine after the Turkey is sliced. I had no choice but to try and eat it, but it was disgusting. This was our second time at Nick’s lunch take-out. The first time one of us loved the Italian sandwich, but my Cuban was made with grainy brown mustard, not the traditional yellow mustard. The strong mustard completely overpowered the sandwich. I think if you are going to add something to a sandwich which deviates from the original, the menu description should say that. I am afraid Nick’s for lunch is off our list. I don’t want to order expensive sandwiches and be disappointed again. Their chips are very good however.

We came here for my birthday and everything was pretty good overall but some things just tasted off. Service was great when present and the feel of the place is very nice. The wings and cheese bread appetizers were both great. Nick's burger and side salad were good as was the carbonara even though the egg was raw on top. Juicy burger though cooked perfect. The shrimp scampi was dry and had very little taste even with the vegetables. The chicken Parm was good but the spaghetti it came with justed tasted...weird and it was like 3 bites of noodles. The lasagna was a TINY portion for the price, was burnt to the pan it came in, and most of us at the table tasted something reminiscing of fish in it somehow. Tasted more like a chili than any lasagna I've ever had. We had reservations for 530 and got served 6:47. And I know they were busy and it was Sat night but I asked for Diet Coke 3x and finally got one when my dish was half gone. I've heard amazing things about this place so maybe my taste buds are just the ones off but I was expecting just a bit more from this place at most things being almost $20 a plate.

I debated posting a review but honestly this was a terrible dining experience. We arrived at 7 pm on a Friday night with no reservation as a party of seven - so that was definitely on us for not planning better. The host told us it would be a thirty minute wait and we'd have to sit outside. We were fine with that because it was a Friday night and everywhere was going to be busy. There is no place to wait inside, so we had to wait outside by a busy road. Not great but can't be helped. So we waited. And waited. And waited. We eventually got seated at 8. Annoying, but not anybody's fault. Predicting wait times isn't an exact science. So we got seated and our server came over pretty quickly and was super nice and friendly, even turning on the heaters so we were more comfortable outside. We ordered our drinks and we went ahead and ordered food as well since we'd had an hour to look over the menu already. We also put in a couple of super easy appetizers because the kids were getting hangry and we thought some cheesy bread and cheese sticks would stave off the hunger. So the server went to put our orders in and then we didn't see him again for thirty minutes. About 8:30 he finally returned with our appetizers - which, mind you, were nothing but cheesy bread and cheese sticks. By that point we were all out of drinks and the kids were incredibly restless. So he refilled our drinks and then we didn't see him again. By 9 it had been an hour since we'd put our food orders in and we hadn't seen our server at all. So I went inside - still couldn't find our server - and asked one of the hosts if they could possibly check on our food that we ordered an hour ago. Not long after that they finally brought our food out. The manager brought the food out. They brought the four adults' food first, followed by two of the three kids'. But the third kid didn't get anything. Because it had already taken so long, she genuinely thought they weren't going to bring her food and started crying. Finally our server brought her food and just placed it in front of her with an 'enjoy,' completely ignoring the fact that the child was crying. Nobody, not the manager nor the server, ever apologized for the food taking so long. I get that kitchens sometimes get backed up. It happens. But the server could've come by to check on us? To let us know it was taking longer than usual? We were essentially ignored for an hour with no apology or explanation. We didn't want anything comped or anything. We just wanted to have decent service? We asked for to-go boxes and the checks as soon as we got our food. My food was absolutely terrible. I ordered spaghetti and it was very obviously just microwaved. It took an hour apparently to microwave some spaghetti. On the way out, we saw several employees smoking out back wearing their aprons, which is a health code violation. To top it all off, three of the four adults in our party got violently ill after eating here. If I could give it zero stars I absolutely would. Overpriced for terrible microwaved food and terrible service. We will never be...

I am a CSU faculty member and know that Nick's is highly regarded by the CSU community. I've only previously been there for happy hour with colleagues but thought we should try Nicks for dinner while my mother was visiting from Florida this week. I have never experienced such unprofessional behavior from a wait staff member as I did at Nicks on 8/15/25. We arrived at our reservation on time, ordered drinks and food promptly, and then waited over an hour without receiving our meals. During that time, we saw multiple parties who had arrived well after us receive their food. Our waitress had been by to let us know our food was on the way. About 30 more minutes went by and I couldn't find our server, so I politely went to the server station to ask about our order. She explained there had been a rush and that our food should be coming out soon. She said she thought she saw one of our dishes going out to our table right then. She was incorrect.

After additional waiting, some (not all) of our entrees finally arrived, delivered by both our original waitress and another staff member (maybe a manager?) who apologized for the delay. Members of our party expressed that the wait had been excessive, and again we were told the kitchen was backed up. I accepted that explanation -- delays happen -- until the situation took an unacceptable turn.

My husband pointed out to our original server that she earlier told us the food was "in the oven" and would be right out more than 30 minutes before. He then requested to be served by someone else. At that point, the server became confrontational, stating she hoped we would "never come back to this restaurant again." We were with my 84 year old mother who was very upset by the servers behavior. Another staff member apologized again, offered to comp our meals, and we requested our food to go.

All of this would have been an unfortunate case of poor service, busy kitchen, and unhappy customers that the other staff member tried to rectify in which case I would not have posted this review. But here is where it got out of hand: As we left, the original server followed my husband while we walked out- literally came after him- saying that she never wanted to see us again in this restaurant and used extremely foul language while doing so. He just kept walking, did not engage her and we left. This was shocking, abusive and deeply unprofessional.

While I understand kitchens get busy, there is never an excuse for a paying customer to be treated this way. I'm thankful we all had the good sense to keep walking and not engage. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant. I only hope that management addresses this situation with the server. She will get her request. We will never set foot in...

Made a reservation through Resy at 8:00 am on Saturday am for 6:30 pm. When I got there 5 hostesses and a manager staring down and noone looked up to greet me. When I was being seated I reminded a young lady that I had asked for the bar area and she she started to seat me in the bar but when we got in front of the empty bar table she said oh, wait you can't sit here. I said well, why? I made a reservation for the bar area. She replied well our chef's mom called in and we reserved it for her. I sat down and moments later she walked over with another hostess , the two of them hovering over me as I sat. The 2nd hostess says" we do not make bar reservations. I replied perfect, this seat is empty so this will work out just fine. She said :" you cannot sit here, it is reserved". I replied: "that cannot be because you just told me you do not reserve seating in the bar area". She got very argumentative until I said: " Can you send your manager over here please" Meanwhile, A very pleasant server, Nikki, who was friendly and professional apologized for my first encounter and was wonderful the entire rest of the evening. A day late and a dollar short the manager came over and said: " You wanted a manager?" I explained to him what had occurred and he simply said "glad it worked out for you and so you know, what you request online is not a sure thing" How about this Dave (or Dan...I forgot): how about you apologize for my encounter and tell me you hope the rest of my evening is amazing?! (customer service perhaps?) Thanks again Nikki, you got it right! Food was good. I won't go back. It was not that good. Hostesses and manager...
