Not exceptionally good & overpriced in my opinion.
I got an item off of the lunch menu & the meat was stringy & of low quality. It looked as though they attempted to chop it up but when I tried to lift a piece out the entire portion of meat came with it as it was still connected by flavorless connective tissue. My buddy suggested they used the better cuts of meat for the table-side grill selections but if this is the case I'm not interested in paying $12 (among the cheaper lunch entrees too) for a single dish using "scrap meat" as he put it. If that's not the case & this meat was an example of the best items they have then this place won't be in business for long charging $40 for raw meat of this quality that you cook yourself on the table-side grills.
My buddy got a lunch entree that was $13 & it wasn't horrible (probably saved them from getting only one star) with a large caveat: the pork was very fatty. I personally find that the flavor added from properly rendered fat to be an addition to most dishes. The fat on this pork wasn't slow cooked long enough to fully render & in fact was largely unrendered. Think bacon or more specifically pork belly. For someone who orders pork belly they might enjoy this dish. Instead it's labeled "pork" and as such most who order will simply find it to be too fatty for the average person's taste. Possibly another example of saving the better cuts of meat for the table-side orders but that's giving the benefit of the doubt since we (thankfully) didn't invest $80+ on lunch to find out how good that portion of the menu was or wasn't.
They told us to do table-side we'd need to order at least two meat entrees so basically starting at $80 for two people to eat lunch. No thanks. As it was we paid about $20 per person to sit at the bar & eat lunch. No drinks or anything.
The only thing we didn't try was the sushi which may be the way to go here but I doubt I would go back after our first experience. The other Suh Sushi location so maybe this would have been a better option? With the prices though I expected much better than we received.
We were told our entrees came with "sides" that were "bottomless" but as soon as our server dropped them off & explained briefly what they were he wasn't to be seen again until our entrees were delivered which wasn't quick either. He also didn't ask how it was, offer refills & it took entirely too long to get our check as well.
So far we have: poor food at a high price, poor service & lastly is the location itself...
This location isn't very good & previous restaurants have discovered that even though it's centrally located it's not easy to find & kind if sits back in between some places. In addition it just felt like your run-of-the-mill Asian restaurant with nothing notable or exceptional about it. It feels like they threw some wall paper up in an old dark bar & called it a remodel. I felt like I was at a bar with sushi being made at the bar instead of drinks only the food wasn't a good value like you often come to expect at such places.
I'm bummed because I'd like to see more dinning options, especially of the higher-end variety, in mid-town Fort Collins so I'd love to rate this place high to get more people checking it out but I just can't do so in good conscience after our experience there. It feels like someone decided that simply charging high prices would make it fine dining w/o worrying about the decor,...
Read moreFirst time coming here since I live in Aurora but decided to make the drive to Ft Collins and visit some people. I also wanted the chance to see the owners to see if they'd recognize me or not. I was one of their first customers when they opened up a sushi place on Prospect just after the train tracks basically a hop, skip, and a jump away from the Prospect Plaza apartments. I did happen to see Ji Yoon(sp?) but not her husband Sung Won. Sadly, she didn't recognize me which I didn't wholly expect her to. My friends and I ordered a lot of food trying to sample a little bit of everything. We had the kimchi pancake to start. It was a bit mild for my taste but overall good enough where the kimchi didn't overpower the dish itself. We also ordered a rainbow roll and a candy cane roll. The candy cane roll was phenomenal. I was feeling a little risky ordering this since I'm allergic to shrimp, but luckily I had some Claritin in the car and popped a couple before chowing down. The description alone sold me on it. There's a piece of Fuji apple in it that gives the whole roll a bit of sweetness to it as well as subtly changing up the texture with the crunchiness from the apple. I wanted to try the Suh Special but decided against it as it felt like it would put us over the limit. We ordered a plate of sliced pork belly which was crispy, almost like bacon. I ordered a bowl of the Army Soup (budae jjigae) which was pretty good, but not as good as a place in Denver that I frequent. Maybe since there wasn't any melted cheese in the soup? My friend didn't know what to order since she's leery of seafood because of the taste and texture of it, so I ordered a dolpang bibimbap for her. In hindsight I probably should've gotten her the dolsot bibimbap instead. The dolpang bibimbap is massive! It's so massive that I don't even think I could finish it which is saying a lot. Needless to say, she had to box it after finishing maybe a quarter of it. According to my receipt, Tao was our server. She was very helpful in providing insights into the differences between the dolsot and dolpang, but I wish she would've mentioned how big that dish was! Drinks were always topped off and she made the standard checks on us to see if everything was ok. If only I didn't live so far away, or if this place existed while I was going to college there, I'd frequent it more. I'd highly recommend this place if you live in Northern Colorado or if you're...
Read moreI’m glad I was well aware of the soft opening before I went. I’ve worked in and out of South Korea for many years now, so I’m well aware on what it’s like. I know their head chef came in from S Korea a few weeks ago, and it shows. The food is really good- they definitely have that going well for them! Their kimchi’s were slightly different than normal ones I’ve had, it was mild and more fresh, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, I think more Americans would like this style better, but was definitely different than more fermented ones I usually get. The presentation is lovely for everything. The decor is really nice and clean too.
My only complaint is the staff seemed clueless and the kitchen was slow. Everyone was very nice- just clueless. It took 15/20 minuets for someone even to come to our table, and that was after us asking for someone. We ordered 3 lunch items and 2 sushi items. The sushi items came pretty fast, but the lunch items took forever. At one point someone (I assume owner or manager as they were in normal clothes) came to ask what we had, and brought out one of the items and he said he took it from another order because we were waiting so long and the rest would be out soon. We finished it- delicious. Then a server came and asked if we needed anything- we said just our food.. they came back with a second item and said third one would be out soon. After about 1.20 hrs there and over an hour after ordering we got our 3rd item. It was really good. The manager and servers apologized a few times and gave us a free California roll (which also was delicious).
Overall the food is really good, this place has a ton of potential, they really just need to work on the staff a bit more. Everyone was very nice, but so many people were checking on us we didn’t really know who was the server. They definitely need to focus on having one main person for a table vs 2-4 and having the kitchen run a bit faster/smoother. Seriously- this place would a killing if they just focus on a few of those things. We definitely will be back- so nice to have some new foods here in town, and bring me the comfort foods I love from over there. Definitely give this place a try, it...
