Have you ever had one of those days when you're so busy at work that you don't even have time to eat lunch so then you get off work you're starving and decide to grab something on the way home? Well that's the kind of day I had today. I left work and decide to go to Duffy's in the Publix shopping center off SE 17th Street and go to the bar and order a Bacon Mushroom Swiss burger to go. Turns out they have a two-for-one happy hour but since I was getting my order to go I only had time for one drink. I live right around the corner and get home and discover I have someone else's order. Never fails. If you're not hungry, everything works out fine and when you're starving not so much. I called and spoke with the Manager...before he could call back I jumped in the car and went back...before I even pulled in to a parking space manager Frank Morales called with a solution, but I was there so they redid my order and it was delicious! You can never count on everything turning out right the 1st time every time, but when things go wrong it what you do to make it right that counts. That is why I give Duffy's 5 Stars and would highly recommend this local restaurant and will make a point of going back again with family and friends. Thanks Frank! I appreciate the service...and the bartenders that waited on me were great too!...
Read moreStopped by this spot our last evening in Fort Lauderdale and the atmosphere is very much a sports bar, many TVs. There were 6 of us and we ordered turkey burgers, pasta, chicken sandwiches, boneless wings and Mac & cheese (for the little one) and drinks. The boneless wings were similar to my homemade ones...cut up chicken breast and dry. The fries were good. My husband said the pasta lacked flavor and we always rate our meals 1-10, so he gave the pasta a 6. My 3 year old grandson liked his Mac & cheese that eerily reminded me of Kraft box Mac. My daughter inquired about the military discount and the waitress said she thought it would only cover her single meal but went to verify with manager/supervisor. Came back and told my daughter she would need to be "in uniform and active duty." My daughter asked "even with my military ID" and the waitress replied, yes. This was an utter shock to us considering every restaurant including the Discovery Museum allowed her to provide proof of service and allowed use of the discount during our entire visit to Fort Lauderdale (6 days). So if you're military and expecting a discount at Duffy's make sure to come strapped in your boots ready for deployment otherwise you won't receive a military discount unless these stipulations only...
Read moreIt takes a lot to get a bad review from me, but this Duffy’s earned it.
While other nearby places (Kelly’s, Gilbert’s) have kept their quality staff, this one has lost most of them. The result is slow service, some marginal meal prep, missing orders, and more. When it takes one hour for a person to get a hamburger, there’s a problem.
I have brought large groups here for years during the boat show. Typically, it’s tough to get adjoining tables for 16. This year, it was easy. Even on the first night of the World Series, the restaurant was mostly empty. That tells you something.
The last straw was a glass of red wine that was hiding the filthiest glass imaginable. Dried-on food, plus grease. I’m not very sensitive about such things, but some folks would have lost their lunch.
I advised the server, who was embarrassed and showed the manager. He resisted even taking the wine order off the bill, then failed to revise the bill properly (total didn’t change).
At that point, I became impatient — and then got to experience that sense of (unearned) self-importance that’s so unique to Millennial generations.
There’s one great server left there (Noemi), who should be promoted ASAP. As it is, my groups will be...
