Went there to buy a dessert for a Christmas Eve party. I walked in to a haphazard line of people waiting to order. The first thing you'll notice is that the list of offerings on the wall has no pricing info. Why? You’ll find out shortly. As I'm looking at the selection in the case a woman walks in and tries to cut the line since there are no rope dividers or anything in the shop. When I asked her to please move back and give some personal space she goes into a rant about why she hates south Florida and how I should wear a mask if I'm afraid of Covid. I'm literally in my scrubs and not afraid of getting sick but also am very aware that she is attempting to cut the line. When it's my turn to order I order the Guava cheesecake and the girl behind the counter who seems all of 16 and overwhelmed says that'll be 75$. That's an outrageous sum but I agree to purchase since I needed something to bring and wanted the wow factor of something different That was my mistake. I could've easily said no thank you and left which is what I recommend most people do. To add insult to injury there was even a tip option to simply drop a cake into a box. With all of six customers in the store I waited over twenty minutes and was then asked what I had ordered. At this point I ask again to be certain that I was even charged for the right item. She asked a coworker and they assured that it was correct. Waited a bit longer to receive what could have easily been boxed and done in all of five minutes and actually stopped and opened it to make sure because I had no faith that they knew what they were doing. Later that night we cut it up and it was mediocre to say the least.Tart guava purée, a dense cake and crumb crust. Nothing special about it whatsoever. Literally would have been better off going to Cheesecake Factory, Fresh Market, or Wholefoods and paying a fraction of the price. Big let down. I was excited to try this but after that I can say that the only way this would have been a value is if they baked a 50$ bill into the cake. There are also several smaller bake shops in Broward and Palm beach that make better pies at a fraction of the price. A la poubelle. Won't be back. The fact that the “owner” if it’s even really him replying can’t take constructive criticism that is repeated in all his poor reviews says everything. Questionable ingredients? Dude you don’t even post your prices nevermind the ingredients. Don’t worry about seeing me. I wish I had read the reviews prior but this location is new. Right in the trash where...
Read moreI heard about this place from another restaurant they were in. Their pies were good, so I wanted to try out their own store. I looked online to check the hours and went over at 8pm on a Tuesday. Upon arrival, there is no parking in front of the store so you have to park in back and walk around. (OK no big deal). Now as far as the service, it was a complete joke. There were 2 girls working and both ignored me when I walked in. I told them I wanted to order a couple of slices and told them that I definitely wanted a slice of coconut cream. Totally ignored me. Then I asked what are the ingredients for the magic cookie bar, and instead of telling me she pointed to the menu bores and says I don't really know what's in it (really? Who trained you??) then she turned around to continue doing whatever she was doing. The other girl just walked away and was talking to someone who seemed to be in an office and completely ignored me. I asked if anyone was going to help me and they both stared at me like a deer in the headlight. No acknowledgement, no "I can help you", just a dumbfounded look on both their faces. I then turned around and walked out. This is a true shame because while their product is ridiculously over priced, it did taste good. Or at least the last time I tried it. Maybe management dropped the ball on training, or the staff really doesn't care, but I can tell you I will not be returning. PS, the way the owner responded to a previous review was completely unprofessional. I hope everyone takes the time to read reviews before giving this...

When a customer steps into a bakery, they expect to know what they’re buying and for how much. Think: going to the store and seeing a price tag. NOT at this bakery.
We stopped in last night and decided to order the Tres Leches Cake to split. Without knowing any better (no price) it rings up to $12.86 for ONE SLICE OF CAKE. After it had already been prepared.
This is when I noticed the sign stating that they also have “removed the tipping option” and instead automatically add a 10% “service charge” to “pay employees an hourly wage.”
Paying your employees a decent hourly wage is something that should be done ANYWAY and should be factored into the (already exorbitant) price—it’s called “Cost of Goods Sold”—a common term in business.
If an employee earns a TIP then that is warranted. TIPS stands for “to insure proper service” and if exceptional service is delivered then it is warranted. The people who work here are handing over a slice of pie or cake it’s nothing spectacular or labor intensive.
You don’t see the grocery store tacking on a “service charge” for the slice of cake or pie you buy there; nor do they offer you a tip line for the labor of ringing up your pie / cake.
Although the Tres Leche Cake was great, the policies of Fireman Derek’s are insulting and the products are far...
