My boyfriend and I recently visited MIAM cafe on a birthday trip to Fort Lauderdale. Overall the experience was a little disappointing. We ordered steak and eggs, The breakfast platter along with 2 hazelnut iced lattes. Firstly we were really looking forward to enjoying a nice ice cold latte to start our morning. We ordered extra ice with both lattes and when they were brought to our table there was not one single ice cube in either of our drinks. We both looked at each other confused as the waitress served them and said “iced lattes for you.” So again, no ice cubes at all let alone extra ice as we ordered. At first we didn’t say anything we just decided to try the drinks anyway. Both lattes were luke warm, the espresso was weak and the lattes had no flavoring of hazelnut at all. I went up to the counter and politely asked one of the employees to please remake the drinks aa they were warm and to please add ice. EXTRA ice and add hazelnut flavoring as we ordered. She did not remake it she just took the drinks and added a small spoonful of a few ice cubes and handed them back to me. We did not drink the lattes. Next - the food. We knew going in that the cafe was on the more expensive side and we did have have a problem with it especially being that we’re from NYC everything is expensive. We’re used to that. However - the food was definitely aesthetically pleasing to the eye the way it was served but as for the taste and quality especially for the price.. a solid 3 stars. The bacon and potatoes on the breakfast platter was good, very flavorful. But the eggs were rubbery and the avacado was served black which was distasteful. The steak was ordered medium but was served very well done with a strange off putting taste. (We order skirt steak and eggs very often back home and have never experienced that strange taste).
Overall, if you’re looking to visit a cafe for the “Instagram worthy food pictures” and aesthetics but not so much the taste this is certainly the right spot. But if you’re looking for genuine quality and good tasting food especially for a better price then...
Read moreI came here after a quick search on google for Japanese pancakes in ft laudy and finding Miam suggested. What you’ll find here are extra-thick buttermilk pancakes, dense and heavy in texture, more bread than cloud. The area can feel unsafe and is right next to a courthouse. I would not suggest to bring young children.
I ordered the Dubai Pancake, which was visually beautiful but underwhelming in flavor balance. The pistachio filling was a highlight, but there was far too little of it, only enough to lightly cover the top layer of the pancake on top. If the filling had been layered between each pancake, it would have transformed the entire dish.
Instead, after a few bites of the top layer (helped along by the provided maple syrup), the remaining layers were simply too dry and heavy to finish. My husband had the same experience with his Oreo Pancake and left more than half of his plate behind.
We also tried the ham and cheese empanadas. The first order was delicious, these are more gooey than flaky and came with a flavorful dipping sauce. Unfortunately, the second order was overcooked and arrived without sauce, making it far less enjoyable.
Service left much to be desired. We weren’t greeted upon arrival, nor given any guidance on where to sit or order. As first-time guests with a baby in tow, we found ourselves awkwardly standing until observing another customer’s process. There is no servers or real “service”. My husband had to stand up and request water three separate times, much needed to wash down such dense pancakes, we were finally able to get some water after asking the food runner.
In the end, the pancakes didn’t justify their price point. Without more generous fillings, lighter texture, and more attentive service, there’s nothing that would draw me back. I am shocked by the high reviews, seems like a place that went viral online but the service, food quality and...
Read moreOur experience at Miam was truly awful. From the very beginning, everything went wrong. We had to wait more than an hour standing in a small, overcrowded space. I was with my wife and our young child, who was so exhausted he had to sit on the floor.
When we finally got a table, things didn’t get any better. We sat on chairs still warm from the previous customers and at a dirty table we had to clean ourselves because nobody bothered to do it. On top of that, we had to grab our own chairs since the staff didn’t help at all.
After waiting more than an hour just to be seated, we then had to wait another full hour before the food arrived. In total, we spent almost three hours inside before we could finally eat and leave.
The service is terrible, the staff is completely inattentive, and the food is overpriced and overrated. After such a long and frustrating experience, there is absolutely nothing that would make me recommend this place.
Honestly, Miam is not worth your time. Fort Lauderdale has plenty of better restaurants where you can enjoy good food and proper service without going through such a...
