I’ve been a loyal customer here for a while because I truly enjoy the quality of the coffee and the pastry options. It’s also close to my job, and I’ve often gone out of my way to support this small business rather than going to a big chain like Starbucks. Supporting small businesses is so important to me, but lately, it’s been really hard to justify coming here.
The main issue is how understaffed they are during peak hours. Many times, there are only two people working during the busiest times, which leads to long lines and extended wait times. Today, I waited 10 minutes just to place my order and then another 15 minutes to receive my coffee. On top of that, parking is a hassle—there are only three spots available, so I usually end up paying for parking nearby.
I’ve also experienced challenges as someone with a temporary disability. Due to a foot injury, I occasionally use a handicap placard, especially when walking long distances or over uneven surfaces is difficult. The lot next door is full of rocks, making it particularly tough to access the café. One morning, while picking up an order, I was pulling into the handicap space only to be cut off by someone who appeared to be the owner or manager. They parked their car in the handicap spot without a placard and stayed there.
This felt inconsiderate and sets a poor example for customers. If the goal is to create community and foster loyalty, these small but impactful details matter. People notice actions like this, and they influence whether or not they feel valued as customers.
I understand running a small business is challenging, but it feels inconsiderate not to staff adequately during busy times or to overlook accessibility issues. Most of the morning crowd is likely in a rush to get to work, and waiting 25 minutes for a coffee is simply not practical. I love the quality of the coffee here, but the inefficiency and lack of attention to these details have become too much. As much as I want to support a local spot, I’ll likely be looking for a more efficient and considerate option moving forward.
Update after owner reply Thank you for taking the time to reply to my review. I’ve felt this way for weeks now, and yesterday was the breaking point. I placed an online order at 11:20 with a promised ready time of 11:35, but by 11:50, I was still waiting at the counter, 30 minutes for 2 iced lattes and a vegan loaf?. The staff seemed frustrated and overworked, which I don’t blame them for—it’s something that can be mitigated with more hands
While I understand external challenges like parking and construction, there are steps you, as the owner, could take to improve the experience, such as hiring additional staff during peak times, fulfilling online orders promptly, not taking online order at all . My intention isn’t to drag the business down but to provide constructive feedback on areas that could use improvement. I hope this helps, and I appreciate...
Read moreI was so angry by the time I left Wells 2nd Ave I felt it was deserving of a review. If I’m paying $7.33 for an iced vanilla latte with an extra shot I would not expect to leave feeling that way from service, ever. Two workers, one with very short hair ,& one with a small bun. After watching the short haired girl make my drink, I realized it needed more vanilla , upon asking for a bit more because the coffee tasted as if it had none I saw that their vanilla pump was almost out as the second girl ,with a bun, (who was then helping me) struggled to even spurt out a pump and hands it back and says let me know. Obviously ,it made no difference as there was no vanilla in their canister to begin with even the first time. So I then asked if I could receive more in a shot cup so I could leave and not hover etc etc and get to work, she said okay and definitely acknowledged me and what I had asked. At least right then. As I’m standing there the bun girl goes on to make several timely detailed drinks and shots. Which took almost 10 minutes. While I am standing there being blatantly ignored for something that took two seconds to do& again there was clearly no vanilla that was able to be added to the drink the first time they made it. After each drink I start to feel as though she is doing this on purpose because I asked for something that would take less than a moment to provide and was easily done, could and should be done and was right in front of her. I am standing right there!!! Any barista or worker with common sense would have done so quickly.. efficiently, which it was possible, the simplicity and mere second it takes and took to do, I am absolutely convinced she was doing so purposefully. I have never been such blatantly pointedly ignored with simple service and even was wondering at what the reason for the obvious treatment was. It was clear she was purposefully ignoring me and moving on to make several lengthy drinks one after the other. I was absolutely exasperated and angry, rightfully as more drinks were being made until she even went on to grab the newly printed list of orders to start on which was At THAT POINT RIDICULOUS. After 10 minutes I finally ask the other girl if I could receive the same thing in front of bun girl. So that I may finally leave with my now watered down coffee. And then the girl had the audacity to tell me to have a nice day as I’m leaving. Finally acknowledging me :))). It was clear treatment. Angry and exasperated doesn’t even cover the way I felt at that...
