So let me start off by saying the food was great, the atmosphere was good, and the prices although a little high were not bad for a hibachi grill.
Here is what I have an issue with; I'm extremely allergic to fish and when I say allergic I mean if my food touches it with a decent amount of fish juice/oils I will be in the hospital (has happened several times to me). As this is something I have lived with my entire life, I have never had an issue anywhere I went and were always very accommodating. Here is the sequence of events:
We order the food including sushi for my wife and our friend The chef comes out and I tell him I'm allergic and to please not give me any shrimp and to cook my food separately if possible. The chef gives some attitude, but no big deal. If I was a chef it probably would be annoying to hear that all the time, so I brush it off. The chef then announces to the entire table that I'm allergic and that he has to cook the fish last. I found this a little embarrassing, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt and thought he was just trying to give everyone a heads up. The sushi comes out and we center it in front of my plate as I was in the middle; the chef then begins to harass me!!!! I then thought maybe he was joking around and giving me a hard time so then I just brushed that off as well. He cooks the shrimp then throws not just my portion, but also my wife's and our friends on my plate since "i was in the middle"!!!!!! At this point I know that he is being vindictive for whatever reason. Looking back, I should have just given my plate to my wife or friend but didn't so they then began to eat it off my plate. As I eat my rice, I portioned it off to the side and made plenty of room for my steak so that way he knew where I wanted it so it would not be where the shrimp had previously been. As he gets my steak, he then threw my steak right where the shrimp was!!!! I was beyond mad at this point, and my wife ended having to eat half my steak since I couldn't eat it due to contamination!!!
I just could not believe this guy, I'm not sure if he is always like this or if he just thought I was lying for some reason??? I still regret leaving him a 15% tip on about a $115 dollar ticket, but I was unsure of how they split tips there as the drink server was very polite. I never plan on returning here and will start to go to the one in Roanoke that is about to open up since this place seems to be more concerned with sending their customer to the hospital instead of using basic manners. I take my clients out regularly and am always looking for good places to take them to, this will not be one of...
Read moreThis use to be one of my family favorite places to eat so much so my 6 year old daughter decided she wanted to celebrate her birthday here but this visit completely changed our mind. I’m never the one to pull the race card but after the way we were treated tonight had me questioning some things. When we arrived at the restaurant there was one family ahead of us. We were told it was a 25 minute wait so we decided to stick it out since my daughter wanted to eat her so badly. Another family came in after celebrating their daughters birthday and had about the same number of people as us or maybe 1 more person. They were handed a pager as well. Next thing you know the whole lobby area was filled with people waiting. I noticed some people were being seated before us but it was like 2 or 3 people at a time so I was thinking maybe we had too many at the time because we had a party of 5. Then the family they came in after us with the 6 people were seated and after that another family of 7 or 8 that came in way after us was seated. I was ready to leave but my husband decided to ask what’s the problem, the host at the time told us because we had people missing in the party but that made no sense because we were all there waiting to be seated. At this time 35 minutes had past. We asked for the manager and she was very nice and seated us right away. She also took off the prices of our drinks off and gave us 10% off which was really nice. The chef was amazing so amazing made my daughter decided to tip him! When it came time to sing happy birthday to my daughter the waiter went to grab the drum that they have been using all night to sing happy birthday to everyone else but another lady came and literally pulled the drum away from her and put it back up on the shelf. The waiter still came with shakers and made my daughter feel special but I couldn’t help but notice when it was time to sing happy birthday to another table the rude lady that took the drum from my waiter grab the drum to go sing happy birthday to the next today. I really like this place so it sucks that I have to leave this review. I appreciate that the manager was nice enough to take something off the bill but at the end of the night I still felt as though we wasn’t wanted there. Sad to say but we won’t be back after...
Read moreI've been to Hanabi several times, and always had a great experience. Tonight however it was really subpar. I ordered the NY Strip, which was misheard as being shrimp. When the chef came out and read back everyone's order, he said mine as shrimp, and immediately moved on to the next person. I could hardly hear him over the sounds of the other tables and vents, plus shrimp and strip can sound similar. When he asked the other group how they wanted their steaks cooked, he looked at me and said "ah chicken medium yes?' I looked confused and said I had the strip and I wanted it rare. He looked at the order form and nodded and began cooking. After he passed out the other steaks, I mentioned to our server that I should also have steak but there was none left. She asked him about it and he told me "I asked if you had shrimp and you said yes!" Again, it was hard to hear, and he moved so fast I didnt even have a chance to respond. My steak was brought out and cooked. The shrimp he had been cooking for me was scraped off the grill and thrown away. He also got rid of some of the shrimp appetizer, meaning that I and somebody from the other party didn't get any shrimp at all. Besides this, he put on zero performance- basically going through the motions, and not even well. The onion volcano was sad and not stacked properly, so it was just sliding as it flamed. That was the most show we got. Besides that, I was the only one at the table who got regular rice instead of fried. Usually this is one of the first items out, but I didnt get my rice until after the meat started being served- well after everyone who had fried rice got theirs. The waitress was nice enough, and very apologetic over the protein mix up. But overall we were left very disappointed. The food was great but the whole draw of hibachi is the show- that we didn't get. I am willing to go back to Hanabi, as past experiences have been much better, but if the service doesnt improve it will be...
