We dined at the restaurant this evening, and it was quite disappointing. We were looking forward to the experience, especially since we have been loyal customers of My Lan in Haltom City for decades.
Here's what happened during our visit: Both my husband and I ordered the Bun Bo Hue. My husband decided to get pho noodles instead of the usual Bun Bo Hue noodles as always, but he didn't like it after just one bite and wanted to switch to pho. I also found the Bun Bo Hue too lemongrass-flavored and spicy, lacking depth, (it was so bland) so I had to add fish sauce to enhance the taste. A lot of it! About ⅛ of a cup! Despite returning a full bowl of Bun Bo Hue, we were still charged for it. I’m glad I didn’t switch out my Bun Bo hue.
In the restaurant industry, dissatisfied customers usually receive a replacement dish or some form of compensation, but the staff mentioned store policy set by the management. Both my husband and I have worked in the food industry and this is never the case. When I asked to speak with the manager, he was unavailable and the waiter suggested that we should have ordered just one bowl and let my husband taste it first, or requested a small sample, which was impractical.
The food overall was mediocre, including the pho, which had an overpowering anise flavor and was too sweet, lacking the expected rich broth taste. The pho noodles were clumped together and didn't seem fresh, resulting in our daughter only eating a few bites. My son said that their pho was just eh too.
Despite its potential, we won't be returning to...
Read moreWell, I decided to branch out tonight and get something other than Pho, so I tried the Bún bò Huế.
I’ve never had it before, but my wife always talks about how great it is. Well, I took one bite and was not a fan. My wife also mentioned that it tasted odd, and she had to add lots of fish sauce to it, and she usually loves the stuff.
I really can’t even say that it’s bad here, because I have nothing to judge it by. So, I just asked to swap it for Pho instead.
When I went to pay, I noticed that they had not removed the bowl of Bún bò Huế from my ticket, so I mentioned it to the employee. He said “You ate it, so I cannot take it off.”
I only took one bite and immediately asked to send it back and get Pho instead. I wouldn’t exactly say that I “ate it”.
The employee even said that I should have asked for a small bowl to try first, but here’s the thing - I wasn’t expecting to NOT enjoy it.
I worked in the food service industry for many years, and if a customer didn’t like something, we didn’t force them to eat it, much less pay for it.
We wanted our guests to love the food and have a great experience. Clearly, they have a different mindset here.
Overall, it was not a great experience. So, if you are the owner of My Lan, just know that you lost all future business...
Read moreWe had a horrible experience here last night. We went in to celebrate my daughter's 17th birthday. Our party of 5 was seated at a table that may have accommodated 4 at the most. We ordered, first, we were informed that they were out of regular Boba, which was half the reason we went there in the first place. My daughter decided we would stay as they had an alternative, popping strawberry (??) boba. 15 minutes later, someone came to tell us the drinks wouldn't be available until the end of our meal as they were understaffed. Everything they brought wouldn't fit on out table, so the waitress moved the sauces, instead of empty appetizer plates to a table next to us, but refused to push the 2 tables together as we had requested when we were first seated. We asked multiple times for lemon for our water since our drinks weren't available, never received the lemons. Thus is the third time I've been to this location and I won't go back. Very disappointing as Pho is my favorite food, sad to loose a spot I had...
