They are all about $$$ ... and they scammed me. At the end of the dinner, when the bill came, on the 2nd pass of the bill (not the first) they added a 3+% "electronic processing fee" ... WITHOUT TELLING ME. When I looked at the menu, there was a disclosure at the very bottom of one page, in print so small that it almost required a magnifying glass to read, that "we will charge a 3+% service charge on every ticket. We will give you a credit if you pay in cash." So they are charging me to use a credit card, when no restaurant would be in business if they didn't take credit cards. When I raised the issue with the manager ("Peyton") she was unapologetic, with the statement that "all restaurants do this now". I'm sorry ... I eat out around 2x a week, at restaurants of all levels, and this is only the 2nd time in roughly 5 years that I have been charged for using a credit card. ... and the other time they disclosed it better. Peyton's additional comment was "well, it's on the menu" ,,, again almost microscopic print.
I had a relatively normal "bar dinner", with a Caesar Salad (no protein), one mocktail (which they charged me full price for), and a side of onion rings, and the total before tip was around $55. Again, they are all about the $$$.
Food and atmosphere were "okay" ... service was a little slow.
But I simply cannot tolerate dishonesty, and the whole way this restaurant approached this issue was not "up front", and clearly they were trying to "sneak" the issue in on the customers. They should simply price their food appropriately to avoid having to "sneak" extra charges in. They should understand that how they handled this conveyed a message: "The customer is "last" ... we are "first" (again, remember that the manager was totally unapologetic). Please do not reward this establishment for that type...
Read moreRex's is a new place and it's a very good new place, taking over the old spot of the former Macaroni Grill and you can get just a hint of that if you remember the building in it's former life. But Rex's is a new creation to be sure. And for what Rex's is and for what they are attempting to accomplish here, it truly is 5 stars within that context, which is a very relaxed setting with tasty food items like the chicken fried steak. There's an outside patio area which is also nice and good for families. And lot's of TV's provide a distraction (something other than your phone) if that's something that you're looking for.
Adrian asked us to leave a review, so here's that as well: Adrian is an entertainer and that's a very good fit for this kind of atmosphere. Service was at an appropriate pace for the occasion. I think that if you're in the mood for a cheerful, enthusiastic waiter then you should ask for him.
I think that Rex's certainly deserves a chance if you're in the area and are tired of the same old poor service that is experienced in too many restaurants these days. Rex's reminds me of a time when professional service and good dining experiences were the norm rather than...
Read moreFort Worth has been in great need of a fantastic place to watch sports and enjoy chef-inspired food, and Rex's Bar & Grill fills that void perfectly.
From the moment you enter, the atmosphere is inviting, adorned with local sports memorabilia. At the end of the walkway, we were greeted with a warm welcome and a smile! We were quickly seated, and our order was taken.
I apologize for not taking pictures, but we started our meal with deviled eggs. The filling was well-seasoned, but the best part was that first bite, combining the deviled egg filling with bacon and pickled chile—it was off the chain!
For our main courses, I ordered the Rosemary Chicken, and my wife chose a salad with salmon.
My chicken was cooked to perfection, and every piece was juicy. The sides I ordered were corn succotash and umami sprouts. I must say, they lived up to the hype. They were so delicious that I know I won’t be able to resist ordering them again next time! I honestly can’t decide which side I enjoyed more.
The restaurant is filled with TVs, all equipped with amazing sound.
A huge shout out to Joe Lane for his exceptional hospitality. I can't...
