Ok. Here's the thing! What's better than good Barbecue once a day? Well, twice a day... Of Course!!! So... That's what I did. Opening day at Rudy's Country Store and Bar‑B‑Q needed to be a celebration of sorts to test out Rudy's fare. So.. I went for lunch and it was five stars. Then when one of my best friends came over, I just had to go back to show her the good vittles. So, this turns into a convoluted review. Trudge on!
This location is now open! I got to try it opening day. They had as many staff as they did customers! But, it was only 2:45 in the afternoon. I really like pulled pork BBQ. I suppose you could say I'm a pig for good pork BBQ!!!
So I got a pulled pork sandwich to go along with a small container of coleslaw. When I got home, I opened the sandwich to add some of their original sause (not sauce the ads say) and was immediately disappointed by the look of the texture. It looked almost ground up or chopped as they say back in NC where I'm from. It was not "pulled" with big chunks of meat like most places. So, I added the sause, took a spoonful of slaw and dug in. OMG... I was surprised. The slaw was very good, the BBQ with the original sause was very tantalizing and scrumptious. The sause had a small and most perfect bite to it. I was very impressed. I'll definitely go back (often)! They open for breakfast each morning at 6 AM.
Still opening day. Burp!! I'm getting full of BBQ (That's not a bad thing). We tried a variety of items on their menu just to get a flavor of variety and the goodness of it all. On balance, the second visit was more disappointing for the fundamental thing you get at a BBQ joint - the meat. Let me just give a chart of the items tried and the stars we gave each item tried.
3* Baby back ribs - dry and not falling off the bone. Cheddar's has better. Imagine that! 3* Brisket - dry and some parts chewed back at you 5* Potato salad 5* Cream corn 3* Three bean salad 2* Peach cobbler - tasted more bready than peachy 5* Zapp's Mesquite BBQ chips Yum!!!!
The overall is four stars rather than three because of the two sides we really liked not the meats obviously. So... it could just as easily have been 3 stars. We are giving them the benefit of the doubt since it was opening day and frankly anything can happen on a restaurant start-up. So.. Hopefully others will soon add their reviews. The atmosphere was quite pleasant.
Their web page says that their pits are 100% wood fired with oak, a slower burning wood than the mesquite used by others. Along with time and oak, they cook with a dry spice. There is a distinctive pit cooked taste to it that is quite unique from other BBQ places.

Read moreIt's okay. I was curious about their breakfast tacos because I've driven by there and saw that's it's open so early. I decided to try it out during the middle of the day. I got a brisket sandwich, which is just sliced brisket on a hamburger bun, and a small peach cobbler. Brisket was tender enough. Didn't think it had much seasoning. It's about the same as many chain places. Like Spring Creek BBQ or any of the kind of places that if the place you work at decides to bring food in for some occasion (employee appreciation day or the like), if they brought BBQ it would be on par with that. The peach cobbler was like the in store desserts Kroger might make. At least it didn't come across like it was heavy on high fructose corn syrup. I got the mild sauce with the sandwich as opposed to the hot and the mild makes me think the hot is mild. A lot of BBQ place"s sauces lean towards the vinegar side of flavor and this is one of them. Overall it satisfied my curiosity. It's a nice looking place. If I was with somebody who wanted to eat there I could go and be fine with it. Or like I said before, if somebody was providing it I'd be fine eating it. But it's not a place I'd...
Read moreIf you're in a hurry, the short review is the prices are a little high but food is worth it. I've honestly only gone in here for breakfast tacos. I've been 3 times. Ordered them to go. Normally brisket tacos and Rudy chopped. This time I called ahead and needed a dozen tacos(6 Jalapeño sausage and 6 brisket)They were well filled, delicious breakfast tacos. Probably over a 1/4lb of food in each. The staff(all 8ish) greeted me as soon as I entered. It was my first time coming in to pick up instead of the drive thru. The tacos were ready exactly when I walked in which was 2 minutes early, all made correctly, and idk if I was just extremely hungry but the sausage and brisket in the tacos tasted smoker than normal. I'll be back next weekend to try the actual bbq. As a Texan who eats bbq weekly multiple times and smokes my own I approve this place. If not for the quality food but for the excellent team members at this store. (I can't speak to the others). I know I rambled but it was the best food service experience I've had since the 19 started. Thank you Rudy's staff members. You're why I made sure to write...
