First..I am a senior citizen white hair and all. Sunday morning 28th of August apx 845 am myself and fellow senior citizen neighbor thought we would give this Whataburger a try again after 2 years back feeling uncomfortable with the panhandling population that has grown frequenting the place. We both ordered breakfast on a bunch with a substitute of Texas toast from a cashier wearing a mask unable really to effectively communicate. To prove that she never recorded the Texas toast request. We both ordered senior beverages and being morning I wanted a coffee. After receiving the cup I went for the white sugar.....no white sugar out no problem I will just go to the counter and pick some up !! At that time the manager said they had none and he was not responsible as the warehouse sends what they want. He then went on to say my anger was miss directed he was not to blame. I asked why beings he knew they had no sugar did he not go to a restaurant supply store or Walmart for that matter ? Not his problem he says. I then told him it was in fact his responsibility being the manager here. He was agitated as I walked away crushing my my cup in discuss. My neighbor sensing my displeasure asked for the order to go. We would just take it home and eat it at a lesser temperature and have coffee WITH SUGAR. Now on the way out I visited the counter to again speak to the manager who was in view. I again told him it was his responsibility........... WHOAAA ! Out Flys the manager around the counter steps into my space then face lightly belly bumping me telling me I can't talk to him like that (manager out weighs me by 100lb) and that I was to leave. Don't think I will nor my neighbor ever go back not for the possibility of no sugar but the intimidating, physical threat with the belly bump presents. I even made the attempt to speak with the GM at the restaurant by phone..... Mary a black woman my neighbor and I adored. I guess she moved on because the same manager I had the problem with came to the phone. I asked if he was the manager that kicked ot the elderly the previous day ? "Yes that was him. " Hopeing we could discuss this event and what steps could have been taken to deescalte and avoid future problems did not present itself as the manager said YOU CANT TALK TO ME LIKE THAT AND HUNG UP ON ME. Unless you are trained fighter or by chance recieve your order correctly keep driving as the management is not responsible for anything or takes constructive criticism lightly. GOOD LUCK TO ALL. (waiting for corporate to reach out at the moment been...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI love the friendly, understanding attitude of the staff here. Being without a ton of money and needing to ponder the menu thoughtfully, even considering things to the last cent post sales tax, Jarrett and his manager answered my questions gracefully and thus made my meal possible in the divine way it was received. Just very pleasant to work with such down to earth, kindhearted people.
I was literally writing the above thought down as a happy-go-lucky pair of young men came in after getting off work simply to joke around with Jarrett and the other staff here, introducing themselves to me at some point and drifting into having a convo about science fiction topics of a wide variety that began with their observation that they felt I looked like Jesus, progressed to reincarnation and ended with medical advancements of the future and space exploration. We dapped it up and parted ways friends. All of which is only to point out, these are very uniquely friendly and curious young men (one of whom was 14 years old, the other likely late teens if I was to guess) in there at midnight merely to cut it up with staff they felt matched that awesome energy.
After my new friends left, I was thinking about the general good Whataburger vibes I seem to always get at any location, the Olympic-ready speed with which I eviscerated my burger, and other general happy tangential things when it occurred to me: How cool is it that post-COVID there are a few uncompromising places who choose to keep things open 24 hours like they used to? *If for nothing else than to keep the graveyard crew motivated to continue forward with the the good work, it means so much to me to be able to sit down somewhere, and to be able to do so with good company, and at midnight+, and with my charger for my dying phone, etc. There are a few places that still stay open for drive-thru but close their doors to the public walk-ins at 10ish (cough cough Mc-ye-who-shall-not-be-named).
You make Texans proud, yāall, so keep it up and weāll keep...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSo this morning stopped to get a taquito and coffee in the drive thru there was 3 cars plus mine and the wait begin this was about 9:30 am and at 9:45 6 more cars had come and neither of the cars ahead of me had moved so I left my car and went in and a young lady asked what's wrong of course i told her i was wondering what the holdup was and I didn't have the option of driving off because of the 2 cars in the right lane that i was in I then told her that i was waiting for a taquito and a coffee and she replied that's all and proceeds to get my small coffee then Colina the MANAGER Which is the same person that walked right by me when I was leaving my car and coming inside say's to me "You can leave now those cars are gone" and I replied both of them she said yes I thanked her for giving me the option of leaving to resolve the long wait time but I am amazed at the lack of managerial skills that Colina had or attempted to use so and I turn to leave but then turned back and asked if she was the Manager and she said Yes I'm one of them. Sadly this same person Colina passed by me walking toward the building engaged me then and the only thing she said was "you can't go in that door" I've never done a review like this but I Know some good Managers that would Manage if your location really wants to be successful. My question is how many of your customer's get encouraged to leave your business on a daily, weekly, monthly basis? I'm very understanding and have some knowledge of the restaurant industry and I respect people. The first young lady that acknowledged me when i walked in Managed the situation and I believe she was front counter I didn't get her name but she would be a great Manager for your location in my opinion. I do plan on delivering an email to the corporate office as well now that I couldn't post this with out...
