O'Neil's Tavern & Grill Steamboat Colorado
It’s a pretty neat little place to go. They’re located a few streets over from ski slope, and could watch people skiing from there. They did a good job with decorating the inside of the tavern. All the artwork, posters, pictures, wall decor, and color scheme all meshed together very well. Having the stuffed moose head (or giant deer head, not sure, since I don’t hunt) was a nice touch. We were there to eat, so we didn’t explore the tavern side. It looked pretty cool, and based on all the bottles of alcohol on display, I’d assume they offer an extensive selection on drinks. I was pretty dark on the tavern side and I’d assume that’s what you want if you there to chill and enjoy a good drink and watch a game. They also have a few large TV’s. I counted 4 large TV’s on the dinning side with a few games and the news on. I did see several TV’s on the tavern side, but didn’t get to count them. Outside had a lot of Christmas lights on everything, and I’m sure that’s cool at night, but it looks like they didn’t put much thought into the light scheme. If you wanted the have the theme of random lights just hung wherever, then mission accomplished. Being an out of town tourist (week of thanksgiving), I kinda expected it to be well decorated to stand out, to attract the Christmas crowd. As for experience, we were nicely greeted at front counter and seated. Dinning side was empty. They have a nice covered dining area outside, but it was too cold for that and we weren’t dressed for sitting outside in cold. The waiter and waitress were pleasant, patient (there were 7 of us), and answered all our questions. They had three different menus, a main menu, an happy hour menu (3:30-5:30 & 10:30-midnight) and then an after 5pm menu. What was weird, there wasn’t any appetizer’s section, and we asked if there was one; Nope. Waiter just pointed at menu and just reading some items from main menu; heck we could’ve done that. We ended up with a fried cheese item (it was good tho), that was a regular menu item for our appetizer. We ordered fish and chips, FYI, it comes with one pc of fish (it’s a large piece, but won’t fill you up) and the fries weren’t seasoned. We also got cob salads. I only ate a few bites of mine, and my son ate about half of his; it just wasn’t very good. Wife ordered chicken tender and fries, FYI (it’s also only one piece of chicken and won’t fill you up), she said chicken was ok, nothing spectacular. We also ordered the sausage. It was a large sausage, but not too good, we only ate half of it. We also ordered a pretzel, and that was the highlight of the entire order. The pretzel was huge and was really good, not too hard and not too soft, lightly salted. We almost ate all of it. That’s about it for food, nothing really impressive and nothing to brag on. We spent around $150 with tip. Not worth the price. Also on a funny note, we asked for half sweet half unsweet tea, lol: “we have tea but not sweet tea”, “I’ll give you some sugar packets”. We choose this establishment based on a reference from our condo company. Sorry, but we won’t be referring it to anyone we know I’ve included pictures of all 3 menus and blurred peoples facing in...
Read moreThis place was gross, table, glassware not clean, ( see picture) garden hose and dog bowl right next to our table; lots of crumbs and debris all over the deck, Not swept. There were 3 of us. We ordered the "homemade " cheddar biscuits. They came out like biscuit croutons, dry hot on the outside cold in the center. A definite reheat. Not fresh made. I'm not sure what the spread for the biscuits was but It had a grainy texture like it had been sitting uncovered in the fridge since earlier in the day before service. We sent it back. We ordered the melon salad the kale salad and the fish and chips. Kale salad was literally a big handful of rough, huge inedible pieces of kale; lots of which was discolored and gross (see pics) and a few berries. They did sub the blue cheese for feta which we appreciated, the melon salad was super boring; they forgot the dressing. The grilled chicken on the salad was ok ; very thin maybe 5oz. But was not dry. The fish and chips were a 2 out of 10. The fish was good;everything else was awful. Fries way over cooked and dry. Slaw had a weird tinge to it like it was made at the beginning of the week. didn't touch it as the first bite stung the roof of my mouth The lemon wedges must have been cut a few days ago. Dried out and full of seeds. I Didn't touch them. I considered putting ketchup on the fries until I saw the ketchup bottle. Gross (see picture) did I mention they forgot to bring us silverware..... It took them 15 minutes to get Me a drink. I ordered a Guinness, not what I received. I have drank more than my fair share of Guinness, that creamy nitro, bread in a bottle beer came to me as beer flavored seltzer water. I didn't finish it. At this point it wasn't worth sending back. Blah....let's talk about our service. I spent over a decade running restaurants. This place is understaffed. Food runner was very green, but was trying. Our waitress was clearly spread thin, as she verbally expressed to us. I get it, but we went out for a reason, company politics should not enter our earshot; hospitality 101. It took me 15 minutes to pay my bill. I tip on service which I didn't receive; my tip reflected that. I truly strive to write honest reviews. I'm not looking to bash anyone. I did (reluctantly) pay for this food. With that being said I would NEVER go back. Honestly the attitude we received from the staff walking in to the establishment should have been a red flag. I guess I'm getting soft. Choose a different...
Read moreHow and where do I start with this abomination of a restaurant. Claimed as a “dive bar”, 125 dollars for ribs and burgers? I don’t know about anyone reading this. But dive bars usually have burgers for 13 bucks. Speaking of 13 dollars. They have a convenient lunch menu that lists all 7 items at 13 dollars. This is only available from 12-3:30. Great! We ordered two things that were both highly touted by our waitress. A shepherds pie and Samurai chicken. Both of which tasted fine, but unless you were feeding a child, wouldn’t stand a chance to fill anyone up. Imagine a shepherds pie portion, no bigger than the size of a baseball in circumference, and no deeper than 3/4 of an inch. Imagine a chicken breast, butterflied, then split in half with a portion of rice the size of a 4 year olds hand. This isn’t even an exaggeration either! The food was okay. I normally won’t complain especially to waitstaff. But this definitely needed something. It was approached civilly, we told our waitress that the food portions were ridiculously small, even for a lunch menu. She proceeded to laugh at us and say “well it’s a lunch menu and that’s why it’s cheaper” what an absolute joke!!! I have never not left a tip for any waitstaff no matter how bad the service is. This was a first for me. I don’t expect the world to be catered. But maybe an apology at the bare minimum? How come the smaller portion sizes weren’t listed on the menu? What a sad excuse for a restaurant. Stay away if you enjoy...
