I read about a Rick's a few years ago now, before I moved to Kentucky, and added it to my "must go" list. My husband and I drove past it a few times over our first year here without even recognizing it, it's so tiny!
This year, we decided to stop in for lunch and whooo... yup.. it's tiny! If it hadn't been raining we would have definitely opted to eat outside because it's really "cozy" inside. Like, get to know everyone in the joint cozy...
The food here is a tad on the pricey side but it's all cooked from scratch by Rick himself. I ordered the White Light Burger and my Husband got all adventurous... as he does... and ordered the Alligator Po'Boy. We both got a side of Hush Puppies.
Now, I'm not one for runny eggs... like, really... I'm grossed out by them... but, I took a chance with the White Light Burger and was not only not put off by it.. I was impressed. The seasoning on the burger was impactful without being overly intense... and the runny eggs yolk oozed out all over everything and mingled with the seasoning and made an excellent dipping sauce for the delicious, hand-made hush puppies! My husband was delighted with his Alligator Po'Boy and offered me a bite. And despite being apprehensive... it was damn good!
Now, my husband and I aren't terribly comfortable with really tight spaces, so that was the one downside for me. But, I can see how, if you were to frequent this establishment, you would get to know everyone... it's really kind of an intimate experience. Rick was in a fine mood and came out to make sure everyone was enjoying the food.. and his staff were all friendly and responsive. All in all... an...
Read moreThis diner is definitely an experience. We sat at the counter which was cool as we spoke with Chef Rick several times while he was cooking. He is a straight shooter and tells you exactly what he thinks which I actually appreciate. Between us, we got a shrimp and oyster Po Boy, eggs Benedict, side of cheesy grits and Brussels sprouts and order of Beignets. The standouts were the oyster Po Boy and the Beignets. Eggs Benedict was just ok, not enough Hollandaise and would rather have had hash browns than the breakfast potatoes. I really like garlic, but there was too much garlic, especially on the Brussels sprouts and the potatoes. Also, the cheesy grits weren’t creamy enough for my liking. I highly recommend the Beignets...melt in your mouth delicious!!!! The atmosphere was cool-tons of memorabilia, including Guy Fieri’s (Food Network) signature. The food was reasonably priced. The one item that was truly disgusting was the bathroom. Not only was it in the basement, and if you don’t watch your step you could literally step through the floor, the toilet itself was...
Read moreI revised 2021. This place used to be real special but the owner has gotten far too greedy. This is coming from a person who has managed restaurants and has an understanding of the industry. I understand quality ingredients are premium price. Their price to quantity ratio is absolutely laughable. Grouchy old man just trying to get over on his gimmick having been on Guy fieri's show a decade or so ago. Who cares anymore. I won't be back
Waitresses are always poorly educated and you have to ask for every single thing. They'll bring you a fork but no napkin. They'll bring you french fries without the thought of bringing ketchup.
Oh yeah, and they make you buy bottled water in a part of the country with some of the best drinking water you can get.
f I'm within 40 miles I make a special trip to go here for the Crawdad pie and grilled potatoes! Prices have gone up a lot which isattributed to great ingredients but I go to other locally-sourced restaurants that don't seem to be...
