I was open to the novelty of this experience and purchased a variety of donuts. I was not wowed. I eat mainly farm to table and overall nutritiously dense food rather than high calorie low nutrition.
I am atypical so my review will not reflect a common appraisal. I also wouldn't eat a fried stick of butter at the state fair opting instead for an expertly created authentic Parisienne croissant or baguette (even the flour is different than in US.)
Let me add, if given a choice I would buy...and enjoy Five Daughters donuts over the new vendor Voodoo Donuts now open at the Nashville Airport. I could not even eat those. A family member bought an entire variety flavor bakery box of donuts returning from a trip. I sampled each one...we threw the entire box away.
First guideline, Buy Local. Buy Small Family Owned Businesses...Build Our Country.
Actually, my favorite donuts are Ellie's Donuts at Saturday Franklin Farmers Market. Here's why, simple donuts of high quality. They vary the two-three flavors every week seasonally. Family owned and run small business. And over time we have a fond familiarity every time we purchase and every time we bump into the owner around Franklin. Good business is about relationships as...

I thought these were donuts. They aren't! They are actually an amazingly light and rich multi-layered french pastry in the shape of donut! Crazy tasty. I guess that is why they call them 100 layer donuts.
If these little hubs of heaven can legally be called donuts then I have just found the best donut shop in the world. I just ate a butterscotch donut and it was super luscious. Wonderful white glaze with caramel drizzle topping, super flakey multilayered pastry inside, and the coup de grâce-- lovely flowing ooze of injected butterscoth pudding exploding from the middle layer of the donut.
Five Daughters also has more traditionally made yeast raised donuts. But seriously, why try those when you can feast on the nirvana of donuts by having their specialty 100 layer donuts? Why try just one?
Yes, you will pay a little more for this decadence. But alas, it is worth it.
If you are in Franklin TN area, you must go to the Factory in Franklin and try a specialty 100 layer donut ar Five Daughters Bakery. You will love it. You have my Kim Gentes quality guarantee (I am inventing that just for this...

If you want the donut that feels like God is giving you a warm hug then you must go with the Bacon Maple. Or, any of their filled 100 layer donuts will give you a similar feeling.
If you are on paleo or want a “healthier” donut… eh. I would just not buy one or splurge and go for the carbs.
Their unstuffed 100 layer donuts are still remarkable and will more than likely be the best donut you have ever eaten.
The mini donuts. I would not suggest. If you made your way here just go for the real deal and skip the “I’ll be good today” attitude. If you get a mini and your friends get their staple donuts you will be kicking yourself. The minis are good, however they are not spectacular. They seem to be a bit harder.
Read the bad reviews. All of them are either on the “healthy” donut or their minis. I don’t think even the most cynical Karen could say a bad word about their stuffed hundred layer, donuts or just their standard hundred layer donuts. If you’re reading this just “go all in”. You...
