As frequent patrons of Franklin Bakehouse, my family have always enjoyed our visits and the tasty food they offer. The quality of their baked goods has consistently been top-notch, and we've come to appreciate the warm, welcoming atmosphere that typically greets us upon entry.
However, our most recent visit left us with a slightly sour taste that had nothing to do with the pastries.
The staff member who assisted us at checkout seemed to be having an off day. Their demeanor was noticeably different from the cheerful interactions we've grown accustomed to. Throughout the transaction, they mumbled under their breath, barely making eye contact, and appeared visibly annoyed when asked to step away from their phone to ring up our purchase.
What struck me as particularly disappointing was the lack of gratitude typically expressed by the staff. When I thanked them, the curt "No problem" response felt out of place, especially given that we're accustomed to being thanked for our patronage.
After completing our transaction, the staff member quickly retreated to lean on the counter, eyes glued to their phone screen, while another employee packed our pastries. This behavior seemed unprofessional and didn't align with the usually attentive service we've experienced at Franklin Bakehouse.
To make matters worse, our child pointed out something rather unsettling. The staff member was wearing a beaded bracelet with the words "I hate you" clearly visible. This choice of accessory was not only inappropriate for a customer-facing role but also contributed to the overall negative atmosphere of our interaction.
While one subpar interaction won't deter us from returning - the quality of their baked goods is still unmatched - we hope this was just an isolated incident. Franklin Bakehouse has always been a highlight of our Sunday mornings, and we look forward to more positive experiences in the future. However, we do hope that management will address the issue of appropriate workplace attire and demeanor to maintain the welcoming environment we've...
Read moreWasn't overly impressed with the food and the young folks there working there were typical young folks and not overly interested in being helpful. I fully admit that I'm past 50 and have a touch of grumpy old man'itis but they seemed to generally want to do the bare minimum and that may be because they just don't know any better. For example, we asked about cinnamon rolls and the young lady working the register said they weren't ready. She didn't bother to ask anyone WHEN they would be ready until we pushed a little. I don't feel she was being rude, she just didn't consider it might helpful to ask when they would be ready. Turns out it was 5 minutes and we were happy to wait for them but could have easily walked out the door instead. That being said, the aforementioned cinnamon rolls were middle-of-the-road and seemed to be stale which surprised me as we were there first thing in the morning. Not sure I'll be...
Read moreI was with a group of people who visited Franklin for a church conference. We saw this bakery from the road and pulled over on a whim. Wow! What a delicious place. The cinnamon rolls are a spiritual experience. My advice: if you're going to eat their cinnamon rolls go ahead and get the ones that are drenched in frosting, then schedule a cleaning appointment with your dentist. You only live once. Their iced coffee was also delicious. Wonderful decor and ambience.
The service they provided was friendly, attentive, and helpful.
When we stopped in for breakfast we noticed a pickup truck in front of the bakery filled with expensive lawn equipment. The tools weren't even chained down and no one stole anything. We all agreed that Franklin is nothing like Houston! I'm glad places like this still exist.
We will be coming back next year for the same conference, and we will definitely stop at the...
