So I had seen this place from the road on the way to the hospital multiple times now and every time was like “Man: that place is so tiny and out of place. …the food has to be AMAZING…”. I typically try to eat at little “mom and pop” diners because their food is (most of the time) something special. Allman’s did NOT disappoint. My wife ordered a burger (blasphemous at a BBQ joint, I know, but she was in the mood for it) and I ordered their brisket sandwich (without jalapeños on it) and WOW. My sandwich stole the show for me. The brisket was tender, juicy, and delicious and the Mayo that was on top was brilliant. My sandwich was on a Martin’s roll which (for me personally) is one of the only ways to go when using a bun. With multiple sauces to try (OG BBQ, Rib sauce, and Secret Sauce), I grabbed a bit of each and they all brought something special to my meal. The Secret Sauce was the winner for me, but the other two were wonderful as well. For sides, we tried the Mac & cheese, the cornbread, and French fries, which were each great. I even tried a bite of my wife’s burger which was also juicy and delicious. To finish things off, my lady got herself a Coke float which came in a frosty mug with whipped cream on top (it was amazing) while I went with a simple chocolate milkshake, which came in the big metal mixing cup and was hand-spun. Price-wise: we spent about $50 when all was said and done with our food, which was a very fair price considering the amount of food we got for our money (seriously: you could have rolled us out the door). The staff was very friendly and fun to speak with. The owner, Matt, came out while we were there and we chatted with him about his awesome taste in music (the playlist playing while we ate was a perfect match for our meal). And Maddie and Elle were kind and answered all of our questions about food and topics and favorites, and helped us pick the right meals to match us perfectly. I will ABSOLUTELY be back to this place in the future. I was told that we weren’t even there at the right time (we got there late in the day) and that we need to come back early for the best brisket…which you BET I’ll be doing. I highly recommend this place. It was simply wonderful.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - A Timeless Barbecue Experience at Allman’s Bar-B-Que Having dined at Allman’s Bar-B-Que in Fredericksburg, VA, I can confidently say this establishment deserves every one of its five stars. Here's why: - Exquisite Pulled Pork Sandwich: The star of the show is undoubtedly the pulled pork sandwich. The meat is lean yet tender, with a flavor profile that speaks volumes of the care taken in its preparation. It's not just pork; it's a masterpiece. - Sauce to Savor: The barbecue sauce strikes an impeccable balance between sweet and tangy, enhancing the meat without overpowering it. It's the kind of sauce you wish you could take home. - Service with a Smile: Our waitress exemplified hospitality. She ensured our dining experience was seamless, keeping our drinks filled and our needs met with a cheerful demeanor that added warmth to the meal. - Sides That Shine: The homemade coleslaw and pickles deserve a special mention. They complement the main dish with their fresh, zesty flavors, rounding off the meal beautifully. - Sweet Tea Perfection: The sweet tea here isn't just a drink; it's an experience. Perfectly sweet, it's the ideal companion to the rich flavors of barbecue. - Ambiance: Allman’s has preserved its retro charm since opening in 1954, offering both indoor charm and outdoor comfort. It's not just a meal; it's a journey back in time, providing an atmosphere that's both nostalgic and welcoming. - Consistency and Quality: It's clear why Allman’s has been around for decades. Their commitment to quality food and excellent service is evident in every aspect of the dining experience. Allman’s Bar-B-Que isn't just a place to eat; it's a destination for anyone who appreciates the art of barbecue. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this gem in Fredericksburg is a must-visit. Their enduring presence in the community is a testament to their exceptional food and service. After closing a family storage unit the other day, I was feeling very sentimental. My North Carolina inflenced mother LOVED Allman's BBQ back in the 1970's to 90's so while driving put of town I decided to stop on a beautiful 71°, sunny day late afternoon for a To-Go order. Delightfully surprised. Same location, menu, few building modifications and yummy smells. Sweet young gentleman behind counter. Such memories of sitting on the counter stools with my mother slowly adding the unique, sweet vinegar BBQ sauce on each tender, minced pork meat bite rather than wet, sticky pork like most 💗 Everybody was Covid safe including dine-in seating. The place started to get busy while I waited for my food. I realized then that the only crew was the counter man and the cook. Upon opening in the car I sadly found my platter of food was 90% cold except for the yummy hush puppies and the simple yet tasty cole slaw: that was tepid. Cold, dry minced pork, cold cornbread, cold roll, cold, cold, cold. 😔 Why didn't I drive back to return? Because I felt bad for the crew. Food is good just not what it should have been, you know? The front of the house guy was taking telephone orders, walk-in orders, bussing tables, preparing condiments and non-kitchen items for each order. Too much! And cook kept checking to see if he could help but kept getting more orders. Not their fault just bad staffing decision. I do wish I could have had a receipt to ask for a credit but modern payment system wasn't providing? I recommend, of course, but know not 100% reliable.

We are not locals but we do have family in the area. We've driven by this place many times but only today decided to try something new and stop in. I only wish we had found this place sooner. It beats the heck out of some of the chain barbecue joints. Allman's has been in this location since 1954. The building looks dated but it has a wonderful old-time type feel to it. They keep the menu limited which is great because they can concentrate on a few items and do them well. The choices are simple: pork, chicken or ribs. Their original, signature sauce, which they've been using since 1954, is vinegar-based. When they decided to start offering ribs that came up with a brown sugar based sauce which is thicker and a bit sweeter. Either sauce is a good choice for the pork. Speaking of the pork, it has a solid flavor and is nice and juicy. The chicken, in my opinion, does not require any sauce. I don't know what they mixed it with but man was it good. Most places have a sauce on the outside of the chicken for roasting but Allman's mixes something in with the pulled chicken. It was so juicy and flavorful. For sides I had onion rings and hush puppies. Both had a nice crunch. I also had coleslaw on the side. It was creamy but not too much and the cabbage was nice and crunchy, very fresh. Next time I want to try the ribs and pork stew, seasonal October to March.

This Northern VA BBQ hotspot has been at the top of several VA BBQ lists for several years running. Having been around since 1949, it is decidedly local and has that vibe without question. Super casual. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Full service with a smile - pay at the counter after the meal. I did the meats (chopped brisket) +3 with baked beans, mac and cheese, and the stew. The chopped brisket was moist and full of smoky flavor. The mac is unique with huge noodles and a nice cheese sauce and the stew was simply amazing - Brunswick style - just excellent on a cold day. I also went with the bread pudding - hot, gooey, cinnamon roll pieces - almost monkey bread style - really good. The prices were very reasonable and the portions were huge. Pretty easy to see why they were at the top end of some of those lists.

Ordered two-Meat plus 3 sides meals, a pulled pork sandwich, kids chicken tender meal, and kids hot dog meal along with an extra side of fries and 4 drinks for around $66 (pre-tip). All in all, the food was great along with the service. Only problems were that they had no ribs (kind of odd for a BBQ place to have no ribs) and they have certain family meals that are to-go only instead of dine in. Also, one of my kid's chicken tenders wasn't cooked all the way (still raw/frozen in the inside) but who goes to a BBQ place and orders chicken tenders, lol, so I didnt hold that too much against the place. Food was great along with the service and I see myself going back when in the mood for BBQ but I hope they have ribs next time...
