UPDATE:
Zuly personally reached out to my fiancé and I and apologized for the situation. She was wonderful with her service and scheduled a tasting with us for June 7th. The tasting was phenomenal, and you can tell that she puts a lot of care and love into her work. The original situation described was a product of a very busy and stressful week for the bakery, and after meeting with Zuly I have full confidence that it was just an unfortunate occurrence and does not accurately represent her business. My fiancé and I fully trust her and her team with our wedding.
and and I hate that I’m a writing a negative review, but I wanted to warn prospective couples looking into Zuly’s for their wedding. Me and my fiancée scheduled a tasting with Zuly’s in late February for our wedding in September. After waiting about a week for a callback, they informed us they were available for a tasting in May. We live out of town so we scheduled a weekend in Fredericksburg that coincided with our tasting date. A week before the tasting, we got an email from Sydney Windham informing us that the bakery got too busy and that it would be preferable to reschedule the tasting. We apologized and said unfortunately we couldn’t because we lived out of town, but we’d happily just do a pickup. She informed us that after speaking with her team, they wouldn’t be able to do our tasting at all. The only dates they had available were late June. Given that our wedding is in September (we informed them of this) it’s incredibly risky to do a tasting that late because we have another bakery in mind that is filling up fast. I’ve called and left a voicemail hoping something can work out, I’ll update this review if anything new happens. Key takeaway: I’m not sure if I’d trust this bakery with a wedding, their time management seems to be poor, and their service has been unprofessional. It leaves me thinking what happens if we book with them and they are busy near the time of our wedding? Will our desserts be available, or will we be scrambling last minute searching for a cake and desserts for 200 people because...
Read moreI was so disappointed in this place. We came sunday for brunch, there was a small wait. No problem we expected that. While we waited we grabbed a coffee and some pastries to take home. It didnt take too long to be seated . So far everything was good. Once seated it took a few minutes before someone came to the table, again no problem we understand when its busy. Here is where the problem starts, we order and about 10 minutes after we order a large group comes in they go through the to-go line and make their orders. We wait and wait the to go orders begin to be filled. At this point we have been waiting for about an hour no one has checked on us or explained why we have not recieved our food. All the to go orders that were placed after us have left with their food. We flag down the waitress and ask her for an update since we have been waiting over an hour. She states that the kitchen is backed up and prioritizes the to go orders, there are still 3 ahead of us! The waitress tells us "you can leave if you dont want to wait" no apology, no let me get the manager. At this point we opt to leave. I hate leaving a bad review, but that is unacceptable. I have never been anywhere that didn't prioritize dine in guests. I really dont understand how you push back orders that had already been placed to fill orders that came in later. Why on earth would anyone be willing to dine in here when you will be skipped anytime someone comes in with a to go order? So very disappointing to an otherwise cute place. Hopefully they can get it together and provide better sevice for...
Read moreThe quest for a pastry that reminds you of Europe is complete!
We followed Zulay to her new location because we loved her bakery in Kerrville. Imagine my delight to find her new place offered everything I was craving in a beautiful atmosphere with the most amazing staff.
Place was immaculate, with an open feel yet intimate seating options. My favorite part was that you can sit slightly above the serving counter so you can easily see fresh pastries as they bring them out!
I was impressed by the number of fresh baked choices, but I also knew immediately which pastry was for me: the almond croissant. The deluxe chocolate brownie waved at me, but I was a goner when they said the almond croissants "just came out of the oven 15 minutes ago".
The first bite I almost cried. My mom is from Holland and I haven't had a pastry like that since the last time I went to Europe with her. It meant the world to get to have that taste in my mouth again.
I also ordered the eggs Benedict and had the best poached egg I've ever had. And micro greens grown by the owner. WHAT?!
My husband and I had a lovely date and we can't wait to come back and bring our kids to get the gelato that's also part of...
